WHO: Elliot and Rae
WHAT: Ultrasound! Seeing their little one for the first time.
WHERE: A private area of the infirmary.
WHEN: 06/21/19, afternoon.
RATING: Low, maybe medium.
STATUS: In progress!
It was like the nervousness of meeting someone for the first time, multiplied. Which was strange, because they weren't meeting Little One quite yet, so much as just seeing an extremely pixelized version of him-or-her, in black and white. So in theory, this should've been much, much easier than it was. In theory, there was no need for nerves, but Rae was full of them all the same. Or maybe she was just anxious. Either way, she clung to Elliot's hand a little tighter than was probably necessary as they made their way into the small, private area they'd set up in the infirmary for more personal examinations, and breathed in deeply, stopping him before the door. She turned and looked up at him, uncharacteristic shyness on her face and a little bit of worry lining her eyes. This should've been a happy time, right? And they needed happy right then. Rory had even said that as long as she felt fine, she should've been fine. And she did feel fine. So why was she so nervous? “I'm so nervous...” she said sheepishly. “I know I shouldn't be. I just... this is such a big thing, you know? It's the first time we'll ever see our baby.” The anxiety faded a little bit when she said our baby, and she smiled just a little bit. Still hadn't gotten old. “It kind of feels like we're meeting Little One for the first time, but...” she chuckled, embarrassment on her face as she said that. She vaguely remembered saying once that she wanted the baby to know that it was loved from the very beginning, but... it was still a little bit embarrassing to admit that she was so anxious about seeing a little picture. Even more embarrassing was the fact that she needed reassurance to walk through that door. She'd been the one to suggest this, the one who'd been so gung-ho about an ultrasound, and now that they were going into the room, she was balking just a little. “Is it stupid for me to be nervous?” she asked. Though she figured Elliot wouldn't tell her even if he did think it was stupid. He never did, and she knew she'd made some seriously silly suggestions in the past. “It's totally stupid for me to be nervous. It's not like we're actually meeting them yet. So, like... it's not like they'll know whether they like me or not yet, right? So... yeah. Totally stupid,” she answered her own question, shaking her head and sighing. “I'm sorry. I need to...” she shook her head, trying to calm herself or dispel nervous thoughts. “Let's just... go in there.” |
