Ten Point couldn't stop himself from laughing as the other man spoke. "Hey, I get it. I do, trust me. This here," he reached out to the scabbard he'd been keeping a close eye on, pulling the rifle out. "This here is my Sally. Loyal little lady, you know." The hand that ran down the stock was gentle, almost loving. "I owe my fucking life to her," Ten Point then shrugged, still holding the gun in his lap.
Had he known what the other man was thinking, Ten Point would have been surprised: the tech guy's worry was almost perfectly mirrored in his thoughts. Still, no use lingering on things that were, right? Better focus on the now and do what one can to make it better. "The nineteenth century. I like that. I like that a lot." A wide smile was still plastered on Ten Point's face. "Or we could just call it the new middle age."
His jaw fell as the other guy spoke. "The outlets work? We have electricity? Really?" He knew he must have looked like a total idiot with his mouth hanging open but he couldn't stop himself or force himself to shut his mouth. When was the last time they'd had energy? When was the last time he'd been able to plug some gadget in and have it work? Ten Point couldn't even remember.
"You, my friend", he finally gasped, "are a genius."
