It had been an unusual favor Cora had done for Cid and probably not one she would soon repeat. Having sex with Deke was fairly normal lately but putting a spell on him to have him call her Dafne was kind of weird. Bewitching Deke had not been terribly difficult although his mind was rather complex at times. But usually when he was aroused he was more easily controlled. And since the situation had become an audio adventure, she had to make sure Deke was rather vocal and obvious with his desires. Cora, of course, played the part of Dafne as best she could, soft italian accent and all. She forced herself to imagine what the faie girl was like in bed and simulated the ideas as best she could. For performance sake, she embellished a bit to make things more interesting. The only thing that truly bothered her about the ordeal was the fact that Deke seemed more aroused and climaxed more powerfully than usual.

The recording proved satisfactory for its purposes and Cora was now meeting Cid to improve the voice quality on the cd. Deke needed to sound older and Cora needed to have her voice raised an octave or two.

Cora hesitated at the door and idly wondered if Alec would be around. Cora knocked at the door and squared her shoulders, her finger tips lightly brushing back a strand of hair.

Cid blanched, but allowed the video to run. He'd have to see it eventually anyway. Still, he shot a sideways glance at Cora to make sure she was alright with it. While looking at her, he answered her earlier question. "I told him it was a birthday present." Actually, first Cid had told the truth, the answer that Nate had accepted was a version of the truth. A lesser truth, as Cid thought of it, not a little lie. "He accepted that. It's his birthday tomorrow, you know?"

He could see things out of the corner of his eye that he would rather not have known about Cora or Deke. Coughing a bit awkwardly, he paused playback and brought up another program. His voice was strained as he said, "Perhaps I should strip the video file first."

Cora was ignoring the video, choosing to pull out a bottle of nail polish and paint her nails instead. Cora gave a small feminine snort. "He'll certainly be surprised," Cora noted. She truly wondered why Nate was so important to Cid, but she supposed it was not much different from her relationship with Deke. Well...maybe a little different.

Cora looked up when Cid suggested taking out hte video portion. "You can do that?" she asked, a bit more enthused than expected.

"Uh, yeah" Cid was not a computer geek on the level of Nate, but he still had a few tricks up his sleeve. Opening one of his new open source video editors, as he was too poor to actually purchase some of the high quality ones, he loaded the video file.

It displayed on the screen as a film strip on top with matching audio files underneath. Right clicking on the audio, he locked it in place and moved to delete the video. Cid paused, wondering if he should save the video on his hard drive for later. He had promised Cora that no fingers you be able to point her way, so he reluctantly deleted the local copy.

It left only the audio portion displayed. He saved that to the temp folder and opened it up in the audio editor. That program was much more sophisticated. "See, audio only." Turning back to Cora, he asked, "Is the CD rewritable?"

Cora watched as he clicked away until suddenly, the video portion was gone and only the audio was playing. It surprised her that he had these abilities. She guessed it was from hanging around Nate so much. He was bound to pick up some useful information.

Cora closed up her nail polish and tried not to hover. "Yes. That is all I use," she told him as Cid went to work. Changing the voices would be interesting.

Cid did not think that what he had just done was tech savvy. It was just was simple enough that he could do it without Nate being there to tell him. Since coming to Idris, Cid had been playing with the computers. Since he did not have one back home, it was a novelty and an interest for him. He would never be as good as Nate, but he was not stupid.

He looked perplexedly at the output. It was a continuous and combined sound, but he needed it as two different voices. He began searching through the menus hoping that he wouldn't have to do it manually.

Finally, he found a way to separate out different frequencies. Selecting a part where only Cora was speaking, he had it split off her voice waves. It wasn't perfect, but it would do. "Dafne's voice is higher than yours, right?" He asked as leaned in closer to the computer screen.

Watching Cid was rather boring to Cora and her eyes wandered around the dormitory. Alec's side of the room was not as interesting as she thought it would be. The only item that caught her attention was the sword properly hanging from a sword stand mounted to the wall. The welts and bruises left on her hips and thighs by that sword had once been a fond memory.

Her thoughts were suddenly swept away when Cid spoke, asking her about Dafne's voice. "Yes. It's higher. Almost childlike but not quite," she answered, paying attention now to Cid's manipulation of the voices.

Cid did not notice that Cora was scoping out the room, so engrossed was he with the program. He had lived in this room long enough that he barely noticed it anymore. The barrier between his affects and Al's had started to dissolve, so he rarely bothered to make a distinction anyway. However, there were items that were obviously out to be touched.

Cid stuck his tongue between his teeth as he thought. Higher meant closer together right? He started messing with sliders, warping the voice higher and lower as he got the feel for it. As he did he as asked Cora, "Stop me when it sounds like her." Cid did not know much about her, despite being in the same year and house. He had purposefully ignored her up until now.

Cora scooted a little closer so she could listen more clearly to the sounds. She hoped he didn't have to work on each and every sound. That would be very tedious. "Hold it," she said. "Play that again." The sound was definitely close. Perhaps close enough as she tried to imagine the girls voice answering the professor in the classes they shared.

As Cid played the sound again, Cora nodded. "That's it. That is perfect," she smiled, pleased with the small success.

Cid would take this sample sound and apply it to the rest of the similar sounds. It would not be perfect, but it should work in a pinch. He did not want to spend the rest of the day at the computer if he could help it.

Saving their progress, he selected Deke's voice. Thinking back to his stolen abilities and the memories that he collected, he tried to make a matching sound. "Deeper, I guess, more gravelly. But the memory was so vague." He murmured to himself.

Next, Cora watched as Cid mastered the male voice. "Too bad you didn't come to me when you had the vision. I might have been able to see it too but then again, my own powers were switched with that awful water mage," she grumbled at the memory of it. She shivered and was incredibly thankful that the virus had passed. She wondered what Deke had thought about having her powers.

"On the eighth?" Cid questioned, because he knew that was the day that he had adopted Nate's powers. It was supposed to be his break, a national holiday back home. As far as he knew, no one had taken his powers. It was probably for the best, because his ability tended to manifest in violent ways.

"It's still in my head, you know." Of course, it was not terribly clear, since it was far from the only vision that he saw that day. He wondered briefly how Nate kept them all clear in his head, before dismissing it as irrelevant.

Cora waved him off and shook her head. "Its alright. We'll do fine without both of us having those images in our brains." To be honest, Cora just hated trying to read other people. It gave her a terrible headache and she was very doubtful she could get a proper read of Cid's images.

"Let's finish this thing. I have to tutor some 4th year this afternoon," she told him as she looked at watch hanging from a chain around her neck.

	"Almost done, don't get your panties in a bunch." Cid shot back, applying all the changes to the rest of the recording. It was not a mean thing, but an absentminded chastisement. Finally, he sat back, done. It was a strange feeling, knowing he was done but not really believing it. "Done." He said softly, almost too afraid to press play. (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

	Cora smirked and let her fingers tickle his lower back where his shirt rode up a little and she could easily reach down and give his own undies a hard twisting wedgy. Cid shot her a mildy dirty look, annoyed at the presumption that he could have possibly missed anything. He was never wrong, and he never made mistakes. Period. She should know that by now.

Determined to prove her otherwise, he pressed down on the mouse with more force than required. The sound clip started playing, which almost made Cid squirm in his seat. He did not, though, because he knew he would just have to get used to it. "See!" he crowed when the recording was finished. It was not perfect, but it would do.

"Now, scat. You're bothering me." He made impatient shooing motions with his hands.

	Cora listened intently and shrugged as the recording ended. "Very well," she said as he shooed her. "I hope you get what you want with it," she said softly, letting herself out of the room. 	Cid watched her slip out the door, slightly regretting his harsh tone. At least he did for all of a moment before he squashed the emotion away and justifying his actions to himself. All the justification and repression in the world did not ease his unsettled feeling though, so he passed it off as nerves about tuesday. After all, it could not go wrong, could it?
