Ginny narrowed her eyes when Pansy walked into the masquerade ball with Blaise Zabini. She knew they were just friends, but her heart hadn’t quite got that message.
"You're staring," Luna whispered in her ear.
Ginny looked at her friend and smiled. Luna always did a great job when it came to dressing up, and her interest in Muggle folklore had clearly inspired tonight’s vampire costume. Ginny just felt self-conscious in her pirate outfit. She'd considered the bar wench option, but had dismissed it as too cliché. The eye-patch was more her style, anyway – and it meant she didn't need a mask.
"Weasley."
Pansy's voice made Ginny jump. She'd been so busy wallowing in her insecurities, she'd almost forgotten about Pansy and her date. Pansy’s blue eyes sparkled behind her silver mask, and Ginny was back to staring.
"Would you like to dance?" Pansy asked.
Ginny frowned. "I thought you were ignoring me."
"It's just a dance."
Ginny allowed Pansy to pull her onto the dance floor. Maybe they were still fighting. Maybe they'd always fight over little things, but Ginny knew that no one made her heart beat quite like Pansy, and she'd always allow Pansy to lead.
