HP Beholder 2014 Sign-Ups!
SIGN-UPS ARE NOW CLOSED

Welcome to the seventh round of [info]hp_beholder! Once again, we're here to bring a little love (or lust) into the lives of our favourite Harry Potter characters who are otherwise often overlooked.

Sign-ups are now open and will remain so until 6:00PM (Pacific Time) on Thursday, February 6th. Assignments will go out on the following weekend. Completed, edited stories and artwork are due by 11:59PM (Pacific Time) on Thursday, March 27th.

If you have not already done so, please read the updated community information here, which includes general guidelines, additional tips for writing your request, and this year's schedule.

Things to Keep in Mind:
1. Please do some research before creating fic or art about places and peoples with which you're only vaguely familiar, and ensure that your work and your sign-up don't perpetuate oppressive, discriminatory tropes and attitudes. The Beholder community has been pretty good so far in these areas, and it would be great if we could keep it that way. If you have any questions about whether your work might be problematic in its conception or execution, write to the Mod.

2. This exchange is anonymous. I will be posting all completed works to the community to preserve the authors' and artists' anonymity until the end of the exchange. To that end, please make sure that your work is free of any identifying markers (such as a signature or watermark on art and the appearance of established OCs in stories) and that you remain discreet in your journals.

3. All completed work—1500-word minimum files (.txt or .rtf or .doc) with html coding on stories, please—and all questions should be sent to me at: beholder.mod [at] gmail [dot] com. Please use appropriate content notes when submitting your work. Warnings for non-consensual or dubiously consensual activity, or for sexual activity involving any character under the age of 18, are mandatory.

If you defaulted last year, or had to be contacted after missing deadlines, you are welcome to take part again. However, I would ask that you commit to meeting this year's set deadline.

Additional Likes and Dislikes
(Important Note: your artist or author is not required to take these additional preferences about setting, era, tone, etc. into account, but it might help them come up with ideas, so include as many as you like. This is not the space for hard and fast triggers or squicks; those should be placed in the list of elements that you are unwilling to receive above.)
Characters/Pairings
Severus Snape is my favourite character (to both read and write) and I will be eternally happy if he is one side of a pairing. I especially adore Aberforth/Snape, Filch/Snape, Kettleburn/Snape, and Ollivander/Snape, but anything is fine. Aberforth/Filch is another love of mine, as is Krum/Aberforth and Krum/Harry Potter. In terms of femslash, Muriel/August is a favourite. But really, any pairing I receive is wonderful! :D

If you choose to write Snape (*crosses fingers*), I adore ambiguous, disillusioned, guarded, and/or damaged Snape. I adore Aberforth in all his bitter, grumpy glory and an uncannily perceptive Filch.

As you can tell from my favourite pairings, cross-gen is fine. However, I don't like next-gen characters as much (or Remus Lupin, to be honest).

Era/Setting
I particularly enjoy fics set during the First Voldemort War or during OotP and beyond era. In general, I don't like anything to do with Horcruxes or DH. In fact, I prefer to ignore DH if at all possible, though DH with EWE is fine.

I don't much care for non-magic AUs.

Tone
I adore angst and ambiguity almost as much as I adore Snape. I like wartime fics that focus on the emotional fallout war causes. Bittersweet endings are fine, but I prefer no character death.

I do not like fluff and happiness (although flangst is perfectly acceptable). I do not like flat-out humour.

Miscellany
I like missing moments and/or created moments (the former being things that obviously happened according to JK but were not shown, the latter being things that could have happened but we don't know about [such as during the First War]) and I favour plot over porn (although plot with porn is perfectly fine). Any rating is perfectly acceptable. G is just as good as NC-17. It's all about the emotions for me. Emotions > sex.

Overall, just look at the characters on my list and go with your gut. Ignore this section if nothing screams *write/draw me!*

Thank you!
