Dakota arched one perfectly tweezed orange eyebrow in what's her name's direction. She guessed she was her number one fan? That wasn't exactly an endorsement but Dakota sniffed and gave the girl the once over. She was nervous or shy or maybe both and Dakota smiled warmly at the girl hoping to put her at ease but first she had to get rid of her mom.
"Thanks, Mom. I'll take it from here," Dakota said in a perfectly polite and polished voice. Susan Bell Davenport wasn't a stupid woman but she could turn a blind eye to her children's shenanigans and of the three Dakota could be the hardest to manage. Her brothers were laid back hippies. They weren't afraid of the spotlight but they didn't seek it out the way their younger sister did.
As soon as Susan left the room Dakota dropped the air of polite hospitality and relaxed. "Here. Drink this." She handed the girl a glass of champagne that had been left for Dakota. She planned to drink it herself but the girl seemed like she needed help relaxing, maybe a little loosening up. If that didn't do the trick, Dakota had a number of prescription pills that would. She couldn't hang out all day with someone who stammered and stuttered like a social retard.
"If you're gonna hang with me you need to chill out," Dakota said haughtily as if her word was law, because it damn well was. "I'm just a girl just like you.... with better hair maybe. There's no reason to get all nervous. We're gonna be friends today so be cool."
Dakota turned back to her mirror and gave her hair another fluff or two. She turned to the side and tried to suck in her stomach. She was already pretty thin but Dakota didn't exactly see herself that way. All she saw were disgusting bulges sticking out everywhere. You could never be tiny enough in her industry and that champagne had more calories than she could probably afford right now anyway.
"How do I look?" she finally turned around and asked the girl who's name she didn't even know yet. She fully expected a raving compliment.
