RP: Remus and Lily
Who: Remus Lupin and Lily Potter
When: Sunday, 27 June - afternoon
Where: Entry hall
What: Remus is headed out and runs into a friend.

It had been a long couple of weeks as far as Remus was concerned. Fire-breathing birds, deadly poison, petrification, followed by the Full moon as soon as he was awake again. He'd spent the last couple days taking it easy after the transformation. But, he was restless, the Full passed but still close enough to feel after more than a week of forced inactivity. He'd shared brunch with Regulus, as was quickly becoming their habit on Sunday mornings. But, early in the afternoon, his restlessness was getting to be too much and he didn't want to bother Regulus too much as his lover needed his own rest and peace after the ordeal of the last two weeks.

So, Remus determined to head out for a short walk around the grounds, keeping close to the castle as it didn't seem wise to move too far from aid should a new creature decide to arrive from their past. He was coming up from the lower levels shortly when he spied Lily passing through the entrance hall.

"Well hello," he hailed his friend with a smile. "How fares the mother-to-be?"

"It's good to be up and around again," Rems replied with a smile. "And good to know I didn't hallucinate James telling me about the baby, as I was half-afraid," he added with a teasing wink, her words -- or lack thereof -- confirming James' words for him...which also meant he probably hadn't hallucinated James' declaration regarding godfathers which was...something Remus would have to process.

"But, I would avoid chaining those two together if I were you. There's a reason they were never allowed to serve detention together unsupervised, remember." James and Sirius, bored, and left to their own devices...together...led to the sort of trouble that would only lead to more detentions. "Need I remind you of The Great Belching Choir Incident of 1974? Or The Staff Room Redecorating Project of 1978?"

"I'm sure, you never seemed like someone who enjoyed being sedentary," Lily commented. "Of all the things you could possibly hallucinate James telling you, I'm not surprised a baby is on the list," she replied with a soft laugh, rolling her eyes -- loving, of course -- at how dramatic James could be at times...a quality that Lily once found annoying but now felt was one of her husbands' more endearing traits.

"You say that as though I would ever leave them unsupervised. I just need to find suitable bribes for my grandkids, and not tell them that they'll be babysitting." James and Sirius together were always a dangerous combination, and one Lily most assuredly wouldn't wish on anyone. "No, there's no need for that. I know full well that if I left them alone together for even a moment, James would have Sirius convinced that I need someone shadowing me at all hours of the day making sure I'm safe." It was bad enough that James already had Harry on board with nagging duty.

"Au contraire. I quite enjoy being sedentary if it involves a good book and a hot cuppa with chocolate biscuits," he corrected her with one of not-quite smirks. "It's just when I know there are things that need to be done that staying still doesn't suit me." Or when the cycles of his curse dictated he needed to move, such as that moment. But, that wasn't something they'd ever really talked about, all things considered.

He laughed softly. "The list of strange things I could reasonably hallucinate coming out of James' mouth and still wonder if they actually happened is long and varied."

Raising an eyebrow, he cocked his head. "You do remember at least one of your grandkids is named for the two of them and another is the one Sirius adopted her first day in the castle as a fifth Marauder, right?" Laughing he shook his head. "Can't really blame him, can you? I mean, we men have no idea how women survive nine months of pregnancy. We're naturally inclined to be protective and then you throw in the fragile life of a child growing inside the women he loves more than anything...in a castle where fire-breathing birds and trolls appear out of nowhere. I'd lay money on Sirius not needing to be convinced, too."

"My apologies, I should have said you don't seem the type to enjoy being sedentary against your will," she revised with a slight smile. "You do have a sort of restlessness about you. It's a different kind than what James and Sirius project." Remus was more calm and measured with his need to move, as opposed to James and Sirius, who both often seemed like they might explode if they didn't do something right now.

She sighed, playfully. "Perhaps one day if we're both bored, we can make it into a guessing game. Although, that could get complicated."

Gently pinching the bridge of her nose, she gave a one-shouldered shrug. "Believe me when I tell you that I understand why James is being overprotective, I really do," she explained. "And it's honestly just my luck that the day after I tell him about the baby, he runs into a troll. And then the fire-breathing birds...now suddenly he's telling Harry I should get help in the greenhouses. And of course Harry's on board with all this." She huffed. "It's almost as if James conveniently forgot that I wasn't exactly barred from fighting Voldemort during my pregnancy with Harry."

Remus shrugged one shoulder with deceptive casualness. "It comes and goes with time of month," he said simply. His condition wasn't something they'd ever talked about before...for the obvious reason that he'd never told her his secret and James had kept his friend's secret as well. But, he was getting better at referencing it directly with people in general after a few months of being able to be open about it, being forced by history to reveal his secret.

"It might get very complicated, indeed." He laughed warmly. "But, perhaps we should try it one day just for the fun of it."

Smiling gently, he reached out to squeeze her arm in brief sympathy. "Or perhaps, the situation is simply not as dire this time around that we have to risk you being on the front lines while carrying a child," he suggested quietly. However, he refrained from pointing out neither she nor James had come out of that war at all. "It's probably not a bad idea for you to have some help in the greenhouses, though. Not because you're not capable of defending yourself, but because it's not a wise idea for people to be alone too much when we don't know when and where something else may come through...or what it will be. Having back-up more often than not is a smart idea for everyone."

Lily could sense there was a deeper meaning to his words. "That could be it, yours could be like the tides," she agreed. Her inclination was to probe a little deeper...but she had never been the type to push people into revealing their secrets if they didn't choose to. Whatever he might be hiding from her, she liked to think he would let her in when and if he decided she could be privy to that part of his life.

"We could even up the ante by trying to figure out if it's something James would say, or something Sirius would." They both were prone to saying the most unbelievable things.

It was quite difficult to be annoyed when he exuded empathy with his logic. "There you go, coming up with rational reasons to make me feel silly for whinging," she pouted briefly. He was right, and she accepted that in this instance he probably had a better understanding of James than she did. "You make such fair and valid points that it's hard for me stay grumpy over people wanting to keep me safe in light of the strange happenings going on. I swear, next time I find myself with a head of steam over something, I should come find you since you're so adept at talking me down."

"Ruled by the moon," Remus agreed with a huff of laughter. He'd come to terms with his condition years ago from necessity and with the easy acceptance of three idiot boys who'd earned his undying loyalty in return for it. But, it was different to be here in this time and be able to make clear references, to know everyone knew and no one was looking to persecute him for it. Sometimes it still seemed odd to say things out loud, like this, especially with those others from his time.

He snorted softly. "That's easy. Sirius will say anything he thinks will get a reaction from the person he's saying it to. James will be more subtle...as subtle as he ever is...and say things that seem normal enough until you think about them and then he waits to see how long it takes to sink it."

A warm laugh, followed by a gentle squeeze, and he let go with a fond smile. "I've had years of practice talking sense into stubborn Gryffindors, remember? There's a reason you were the disciplinarian Prefect for our year and I was the one the first years' came to when they were homesick," he teased. "But, you're welcome to find me any time you need to vent or talk or anything. You know that. How about we take my advice and you can keep me from going off alone? I was coming up to take a walk to work of some lingering restlessness from the Full." He held out an arm to her. "Always better with company."

"There are worse things to be ruled by," Lily mentioned with a soft grin. Women were often considered to be ruled by the moon so Remus was in good company in that respect. Besides, it wasn't as though the moon was inconstant or whimsical, in fact it was very much the opposite. It also explained a lot about how empathetic and sensitive to others Remus was.

She considered his words. "That's true, Sirius would go for the shock and awe factor, whereas James would do his best to be clever about it." Also, the chances of Sirius keeping a straight face while he awaited peoples' reaction was practically impossible.

If she was the type to get easily offended, she might think that he just hinted she wasn't as warm and fuzzy as he could be. She couldn't deny the truth in his words, though. "I'll try not to take advantage of that offer too often, as it's my understanding that your Regulus isn't a fan of James and I." She could understand why the younger Black disliked them, and held no malice towards him. She just wanted Remus to be happy. "That being said, I'd be happy to accompany you on your walk."
