RP: Marlene/Scorpius
Who: Marlene/Scorpius
When: 18th June
Where: Infirmary
What: They discuss possibilities

There was more pain that there had been. Marlene had assured him that it was a good thing, because lack of pain meant that he would die. Pain meant that the body was fighting to recreate flesh and skin. There might even be potions to expedite the process, but it was too soon to take them, something about the body needing to do something. Scorpius was in too much pain to pay attention, but his Dad had assured him that now that he could take the potions, he would brew them.

Apparently, though, there was more than simply taking a potion. His entire body was covered in scars and if they only gave him a potion for the burns, he'd look like some terrible monsters from one of the Muggle films he had watched at Rose's house.

"Are you here to tell me what my options are?" he asked with a smile when he saw Marlene sit next to him. "And you look as bad as some of your patients. You need a good night's sleep."

Marlene was tired. No not tired, exhausted she thought as she made her rounds in the infirmary. Between tending to the injuries everyone had sustained, the petrifying of the poisoned and making sure Peter and Theo weren't working themselves to literal death, and keeping up with Regulus and the research it had been a long week. But that was the way it was. That was the life of a healer. Some times things all piled up at once and you just had to work through it. Some days were hard, and hopefully few were filled with heartache.

At least now they had hope. The research Savannah had received held great promise. They were close now, she could feel it in her bones.

It was time to swing by and see Scorpius and see where his head was at. His body she knew all to well how that felt physically, but his mind was something else. That was harder and took more time. Marlene pulled out a chair and sat alongside Scorpius, placing her hand delicately on his own and offering an encouraging smile.

"Don't you worry about me. I've gotten by with less sleep for longer," she said and it was true and while it was the first time here, she doubted it would be the last. "I am here for that. But first I want to know what you want. What are your expectations?" She asked.

"I've come to the conclusion that the real reason for the war is that half of our society was made up of sadist and the other half of masochists. You lot seem to enjoy suffering," he said with a chuckle.

The question was so strange that for a moment, he simply stared at her. "Expectations?" he finally said. "I was told that these are magical scars and you can't make them disappear. At this point, I was thinking that keeping the bandages all the time might just be the way to go so I don't scare people."

He tilted his head, still moving very slowly. "Are you saying that there are other options other than masks and long hair? Because I'll take anything you can do."

Marlene couldn't help but laugh a little. She was sure it must seem that way to the younger ones in the generations that came later. That wasn't quite the truth though at least not her own. "I can't speak for everyone else but I can say, having fought my way through the first war, that isn't the case for me. We suffered so that others could have the chance to live freely. To have choices and freedom, and the right to love who they love and be who they want to be. Sometimes for some, sacrifice is the the only way to make the world you want to see become a reality. And that is worth fighting for. Or it was for me."

There hadn't been much time for discussion of any options until now and Marlene wished she had been able to discuss this sooner, but with things as they were, she had to bid her time until now when things calmed some. "That is true for the most part. I can't completely undo what was done. I can alter what is left and change things. But that, that comes with a lot of planning and discussion. It would mean you could change parts of yourself, but for some that can be distressing. Looking into the mirror and seeing a body that does not feel like your own, is hard for people to sometimes come to terms with. And for others it's an opportunity to change like a caterpillar into a butterfly. Change can be scary, it can also be filled with promise. The process would be long, it takes time. But it can be done."

Her expression was hopeful, full of encouragement and kindness. "So it really comes down to, what do you want?"

Scorpius wasn't going to argue, although he wasn't sure that their goal worked. "Maybe if more people felt that they had something to lose, they would have joined and things wouldn't have dragged on for decades." He believed that a war that had started in the sixties didn't just change people, but also their entire society. "At least we don't have to worry about that problem. Just extinct birds who want to roast us alive."

He frowned. "So you're saying that you can make things the same, but you can sort of recreate another face without looking like a monster. I want that. Trust me, I don't care how weird that is, I want to look beautiful again, because I was seriously thinking of using polyjuice otherwise. I wonder if I keep drinking polyjuice with my own hair, since it's my genetic material if I'd look like I did before."

Yes, he had given a lot of thought about magical ways to ensure that he didn't look like a monster. "But your way- I could technically redo things the way they were, or change completely." He had never thought about it, because he was who he was. "I'm not sure. I'd need potions, then, right? Or is it spells? Or a combo? Like create the flesh with potions and recreate a new skin with spells?"

"Not everyone is able to fight or willing. It's why those who feel that urge to stand, they have to. They feel compelled. Like with these rubbish birds, people came together to fight. We can all overcome a great deal, if we stand together. Change our circumstances, even if what drives and motivates us may differ." She said with a smile. "But I've always been a glass half full sort." She admitted freely.

Marlene gave the blanket along side his hand a slight squeeze. "Your not a monster. I've met monsters."

She listened to what he had to say and considered it all before speaking. It was something she wanted him to be very sure about, because once the ball was set in motion it would be incredibly risky, with his injuries, to turn back.

"Polyjuice would only be an option if it was hair from before. Anything from now would be as you are now. Although I admit, I don't know if it would work. I've never seen someone change back to a previous state of themselves before. So that would have to be put to the test. Regardless it is not a solution, that would be a crutch. And a crutch is only good for the short term. "

"There are some limitations of course. Your bones structure is largely as it is. But yes, we can redo things or change them completely. Regardless of how much change you chose, it is unlikely we can match exactly to as you are now. There will be some variation, and so planning around those changes and modifying to suit your wants and needs might suit you more. You can patch what is there or alter completely."

"It would require potions, spells and more. But mostly time. A great deal of time. It's not something we can do all at once. Depending on what you want to do. And yes, exactly like that. New flesh with potions, charms, spells and special medicinal tools. But it can be done. I'm familiar with the process."

Scorpius smiled. "It's nice to have that, but I think you'll find that everyone born after 1998 sees the glass full of two different substances and why are we even worrying about that? It'll take us a little to get used to the type of mindset that will get us ready to fight, but we'll get there."

He sighed. "I know what magical burn scars look like. I might not be a monster, but I'll look like one."

He groaned. "I hate that. I thought since the genetic material would be of me and me is technically without scars, but I suppose you're right, or we'd create copies of children and not grown up version. Also I understand that it's probably not the best way to live my life, drinking polyjuice every few hours, even if we could make it work."

Looking up at her, he smiled, even if he knew that the gauze would cover most of it. "So what you're saying is that I can look even better than before, even if it'll take some time and be painful." He'd never met a potion that didn't hurt in some way, and right now he was in pain anyway. "It sounds like you mean that I can get my entire body done, and not just the scars on my face, right? I guess... and you can do anything I want," he said, not really sure what he was asking.

"It won't be without it's hardship. That much is true." Without aid what Scorpius said was true, and for someone whose looks were their trade it was a bitter reality to face and he'd be hard to look at. People were inclined to look away and see only what was right in front of them. It was a depressing truth. But he was not a monster despite what had happened to him, and she didn't like his thinking of himself that way.

"Not to mention whatever side effects you'd face from consuming that potion for such a long duration and in quick succession. It is best to shelf that idea for now." She said in agreement.

The hint of a smile peaking out from the bandages delighted her. It was good to see a little glimmer of hope in him. "Essentially yes. Although it is hard to imagine your looking better than before, your a very good looking fellow," she said with a small laugh. "But we can work towards a new goal, lovely. And yes. The potions will hurt and with the injuries you have sustained already, its bound to hurt quite a lot. So taking them we have to space out during the procedure and take our time and go slow. I wont lie and say it wont hurt, I never understood why some healers do that, it doesn't build a lot of trust."

"We can change your entire body. If that is something you'd want to do. I've seen it done before. But that was something a little different, that was a lady who changed herself to become a man. Which was quite controversial at the time," she said with a smile. "But it was who they were and so, it was what needed doing. Even if it ruffled a few feathers," she said with a little grin.

"I want one potion that comes with a strawberry flavour and no pain," he said, chuckling as best as he could. "That should be the priority for our research department after this crisis. Forget the vault, just give us potions that taste like cake."

He knew that the polyjuice idea was impossible to sustain. "Right, you sound all nice and caring and then you squash my dreams," he said, but there was no heat to his words, just the hint of a pout, because he knew that she was right.

"Masochist and sadist," he said, trying not to laugh, because he knew that it would hurt. "All right, I can deal with the pain if it means that the scars are gone. I honestly thought that I'd have to wear some mask so people wouldn't feel disgusted looking at me."

He frowned. "Is that how it started? In my time there were a few people who had done a complete sex change. Not many mind you, but it was still less than accepted. The fact that I wore women's clothes wasn't that accepted either, but I figured-" It was best to still be a man. His family needed the heir, but now- did it really matter anymore? "I might have to think about this. Give me a few days and I'll let you know."
