Peter stopped and hugged her tight. He knew that eventually she'd hate him for it, but right now he could give her some comfort, however short lived. "I'm sorry," he whispered. "I'm so very sorry."
He let go and gave her his arm again. "It's... hard. To think of all the people that are gone. Somehow the death of every wizard and witch doesn't seem as bad that the death of a few people. It doesn't matter that it happened decades ago. Something about numbers and what the mind can cope with."
He looked at her not sure if they should keep on going. "Would you rather find a room? You can pick anything other than the Ravenclaw tower. There are people in the Hufflepuff dormitory, but only two rooms are taken. You don't have to be there. You can stay in the Griffindor tower. Lily is there."
