Lily leaned in closer, brushing her lips over his in a gentle kiss. She couldn't allow him to keep beating himself up like he could somehow change the past. He did everything he could for their son, as did she, and regardless of what might've gone wrong, Harry lived. She wanted James to at least take comfort in that fact like she was.
"It's not stupid," she disagreed. "We can't dwell on the past, on who you should have chosen. If we keep doing that, then we'll never be able to sleep at night since we'll be constantly wondering how things could have gone differently if we just changed a few things."
In that instant, Lily knew, regardless of anything else that happened back then, they had to take advantage of what time they had now. "You're right darling, I'm here now."
His observation about the weather snapped her out of the moment. "I didn't even realize how cold it is," she said in response. "You can tell me the rest after we make sure that we both have all our fingers and toes."
