Re: Albus Dumbledore & Remus
Difficult was a good word for a lot relationships with Old Dumbledore, Remus thought. But, he smiled gently as he nodded. "He was a complicated man. I don't think we always understood his reasons for doing things. I was...furious with him, actually, the last I saw him before arriving here. I didn't understand his reasons for certain choices he'd made and shouted at him before leaving the country. I seem to have gotten over it when I got older and came back."
He shrugged one shoulder, slipping his free hand back into his pocket. "But, he was the first wizard other than my parents to treat me like a person, too. I was turned when I was very young. My parents didn't think I'd be able to go to Hogwarts because of my condition. He, you showed up on our doorstep in the middle of nowhere, shortly after my eleventh birthday. You said with certain precautions there was no reason why I shouldn't be allowed to attend school as long as I kept my condition a secret. You had the Whomping Willow planted over a new tunnel that led to the Shrieking Shack and arranged for Madame Pomfrey, the school matron, to escort me through there every month. You gave me a chance no other Headmaster would have done. Despite our differences of opinion during the war, I've always been grateful to you for that and I hope my older self told yours that eventually because, without that chance, I never would have met three boys who became my best friends, who became illegal animagi just to help me. I wouldn't have been able to help others like me through two wars, or even now with this new Ministry."
