One of the greatest things Cassandra was enjoying about the modern era was the fact that a woman could wear trousers and no one cared. She didn't have to deal with layer after layer after layer of bullshit every morning anymore and if she didn't want to, she didn't have to wear her hair up. Gloves, outside of those for winter, had gone the way of the dodo. Dressing in the mornings was so much simpler. Although there was also a lamentable lack of deep pockets... Thankfully, the heavy cloak she had over everything else had pockets abounds and it meant she was ready to go out.

Almost immediately after breakfast, she had disappeared outside to start scouting around the grounds. She carried in front of her a Y-shaped branch from a hazel tree - a rather traditional dowsing rod though instead of hidden pockets of water (of which there were many around Hogwarts), she was seeing good spiritual energy. It probably looked very silly to anyone who saw her, watching her pace about for a minute, then hold out a stick, shake her head, and move on. The process had been going for a good hour by now and she'd made very little progress.

The land around Hogwarts was so scarred, she was almost afraid there wouldn't be a good spot. Now, she was paused and staring up at the whomping willow that hadn't been on the grounds when she was a girl. Thankfully, she was just out of reach of it so the occasional ominous creak was just the tree settling in the cold. "... Right. The other way then."

Scorpius hated this. DESPISED IT. He was probably a little selfish, or maybe a lot, because it wasn't the death of their entire world that was getting to him, but the confusion over his father. "Nothing we say will change things, though, because it's not you."

He bit lip. "It sounds like the research is not really research if you don't think we can go back. That means that we'll never get what we had back." He wasn't going to get his father back. "It sounds like you've done a lot of planning in only a short time."

He sighed. "So what do we do now?"

"Who knows, maybe we'll find a way." He wasn't very hopeful though. Honestly, he didn't care much if they got back or not. Or, he hadn't. But seeing Scorpius so upset made him want to fix everything, and he had no idea how. He wasn't the father Scorpius knew, and now he never would be. He had thought that was a good thing, now he wasn't as sure. What amazing things had he missed?

"Now, we keep going. There isn't much else we can do. With your job though, the plan is to eventually open things up with other countries. So this doesn't mean your career is over. Just, on hold, I suppose. It's not much consolation, I know, but it's something."

"You don't sound so convinced." Then again if this version of his father was with Mr. Potter, what would happen if they went back? Would it mean that he and Albus would have never been born? "I'm getting a headache thinking of time travel."

He nodded. "I supposed I'm still young and gorgeous. I can be the Face of the Year in 2028 and 2038 and I'll look almost the same," he said with a grin. "But I mean more practical, what do I do now. Where do I live? Where do I get food and clothes? I mean I look awesome in my pink dress, but I can't possibly wear it all the time. It'd lose that certain je ne sais quoi."

"I honestly try not to think about it too much. Would we go back to our time and replace ourselves? Or an alternate timeline? Or would we be replaced, losing all memories of what we did here. Or something worse." He shook his head. "Its why we're just researching and theorizing. Sirius Black probably would have jumped a instantly, and damn the consequences."

That was why Black wasn't allowed to make any decisions. Draco tended to avoid all of Harry's fathers cohort, but Black was quite possibly the least practical person he'd ever met in his life.

"That's the spirit," he said with a smile. "I bet they'll be clambering to have you back."

He stood up and finished making the tea as he spoke, handing Scorpius his cup.

"You can live anywhere you want, as long as its not claimed by someone else. The castle has been transforming the rooms, so pick a place that seems comfortable and it's yours. We eat in the Great Hall, but the House Elves will bring it to you in your rooms if you want. We have enough for now, and are going to grow more and buy from the muggles now that we have money. Clothes are more limited. We've brought back everything we could from the manors, but you'll have to transfigure if you want different styles. We can buy those from the muggles eventually too." He tried to think of what else Scorpius would need to know. "That's about it for the basics. I can help you find a room if you want."

"And if you return and change it do we stop existing?" Scorpius figured that he might as well say it if they were discussing options. "I'm guessing that the longer you are here, the less you want to go back, because now you have a new life here. Also can we go back or is it completely theoretic?"

He raised his chin striking a pose. "Of course they will be. I'm amazing," he said, laughing.

"Oh right, tea." In the middle of all of this, he had forgotten about the tea. "Wait, you brought my clothes from the manor?" He couldn't help but grin. "Did you assume that they belonged to Mom or Grandmother?" He could just imagine this man and his grandfather going through his things. If you brought my clothes from the manor, I should be set for a while." He took a sip of the tea, and thought about his room. "Somewhere close to here maybe? I hope you don't mind. If not I'm sure I'll find something."

"That's a problem, yeah. There are about a billion problems when it comes to time travel. It's all a pretty big mess."

He drank his tea without really tasting it.

"Of course I don't mind! There are lots of open classrooms and things around here. And I did find your clothes, I assumed they were Astorias, she's always had great taste. Everything is all together, after we find your room I'll take you up and you can reclaim your things. We brought a lot back from the manor, and the elves brought more, so you might find quite a lot of your stuff made it here."

He drank the rest of his tea and stood up.

"Right, let's get you settled. And Scorpius? It's good to meet you."
