RP: Visiting the Bank
Who: Harry, a goblin and Remus
When: 9am, 9 March
Where: Gringotts
What: They check out the vault
Five am. They were at Diagon Alley at five in the morning. The sun wasn't even up. Harry enjoyed it as much as a stakeout, since it was a lot of nothing happening really fast. Diagon Alley was completely empty. The stores were boarded up and Harry was sure that the other teams would make a pretty quick survey, because these shops looked even worse than Hogsmeade. It gave the impression that they had closed up London a lot quicker and moved to Scotland.
Still they check, Remus did his thing but short of a lonely goblin arriving at a quarter to nine, they didn't see anyone.
The doors of Gringotts opened at nine o'clock sharp. Harry and Remus went inside. The bank was incredibly silent so different than its usual. All the little cubicles were empty except for one goblin who sat at the furthest one. It was the same reception place that Harry knew well. Their steps echoed in the large room and even at a distance, Harry could see that the goblin was in shock, but he recovered by the time they reached him.
"We're here to get into the Ministry's vault," Harry said.
The goblin looked at them for a good minute and then he said, "You can't. You need the key and the Minister or his authorized representative."
Harry raised the key. "And I am the Minister."
"Nonsense, Mr. Potter is dead," the goblin answered.
Harry shrugged. "I have a way of coming back." He pushed his bangs to the side and showed the goblin his scar. "As you can see, news of my death was greatly exaggerated."
"But you were older," the goblin said confused.
"Yeah and now I'm younger. Now, can we see the vault?" Harry asked.
"This is highly unusual but-" He jumped down from his seat. "Very well. I'll have to take you myself. There's no one else."
"Not expecting guests then?" Harry said as the goblin cast a spell and the doors closed. "Let me ask a question," he said as they walked toward the vaults. "If we have keys and the people are dead, how do we get to their personal vaults."
"You can't, not unless you have their death certificates and proof of intestate death, making the Ministry the owner," the goblin answered.
"What if we don't have their death certificate?" Harry asked.
"Then the Wizengamot can pronounce them dead," the goblin explained as if everyone should know that.
"What if the Wizengamot is dead?" Harry pressed on.
"That's your problem then, not ours," the goblin answered as he opened the door to the cart.
The vault ended up being at the lowest level of the bank. It took the entire floor. They searched and searched but it was only money, nothing else had been hidden here. They took what they needed, made arrangements to exchange money into Muggle currency but also European currency (and apparently Europe now had a common currency). Harry would have to see what to do to move to a European currency. It would make commerce much easier. With that, they were ushered outside and the big doors closed again, signaling that Gringotts would be closed for a while.
Harry turned to Remus. "Any best on how many seconds it'll take him to contact their bank in Belgium? One united currency, I can see how it's easier. I can see how the goblins must not like it. They must lose tons in commission fees."
