RP: Cassandra's Arrival
Who: Cassandra Trelawney & Savannah Monroe
When: 11:32am, precisely.
Where: The entrance courtyard
What: A headache worth 100 or so years.

Warnings: None expected

The vision the week before had been short on details but confirmed by every method she could think of, including reading her own palm. It had changed since the last time she looked at it - something that was expected with age and experience but never so dramatically. She would be taking a journey - a very long one, to a distant place, and yet one that was very familiar. There was no suggestion of what would happen there or whether or not she would return. It simply was. What most people didn't understand about prophecy was the frustrating lack of details when it was important. She could pinpoint where a child had lost a ball with startling accuracy but as things became bigger, details became muddied.

And so Cassandra had decided to act on the suggestion that she might not see her little Hogsmeade cottage again. She had cleaned up, straightened things out, shrunk and hidden the extensive collection of journals she kept of the visions she could remember, and gotten her other affairs in order. She had hoped to hold off as long as possible, not knowing exactly when she was going to have to leave. Traveling on a Sunday was lucky while leaving on a Friday was sure to bring ill-fortune. As it was, neither of those things would happen. It would, in fact, be a Saturday which was neither one thing nor the other.

She had planned it well, in her nicest white dress with a high lace collar (the only one she owned) and her wild hair was carefully pinned in a bun as was the style. And then she sat. And she waited. With her eyes closed, she breathed and she waited, trying to not let her fear of travel get to her. Without her willing herself to do so, she stood and calmly as she could, she walked out of her cottage and into the unknown--

Or actually, all too familiar grounds. Well, they would have been familiar if she hadn't been absolutely slammed by a shift in time itself. Wherever she had gone, it was such a difference that her knees buckled underneath her and it took all her effort not to be sick in the grass. Her head was swimming and the pain made everything go white behind her eyelids. Her body was wracked with sobs for a moment as she tried to block everything out, putting up the walls that she could barely manage in the first place.

Cassandra curled over into a ball, making herself as small as possible, her hands on the back of her neck with her fingers interlocked as she just tried to keep her brain from melting out of her ears. As if she actually had control over that. There was a ringing in her ears which usually came after one of her more intense prophecies so she didn't actually realize just how loud she was crying. But how could one really be expected to stay silent and demure when one's head was absolutely throbbing?

Savannah was out flying. The school brooms were terrible, but they were still better than not flying at all. She hoped they found this hidden vault fast because she wanted a new broom. The air was cold as she danced through the air, practicing different maneuvers in the chilly Scottish air.

She played with an imaginary quaffle, using the pitch for a one woman game until it was time to get back inside. She made a pass through the ground when she saw someone down there. She dove and reached the person- woman there.

A new arrival. Savannah was rather happy that there was finally another woman here. "Are you all right?" she asked as she dismounted, leaving the broom to the ground before going to the woman. "It's all right. I promise. Nothing to cry about, that's for sure. You'll be fine. I'm Savannah and you are?"

A voice. It was muffled from the ringing in her ears but it was feminine and getting closer. She gave herself a few thumps with her fingers on the back of her skull. Unsure of the how of it, she knew that such action helped clear up the ringing at least for a little while.

"Sweet of you, lass," the Irish woman managed softly as she worked through the pain and the quieting sobs, "I'm not frightened. My head hurts... Adjusting to--" she didn't know how to phrase it so she decided to just offer, "Cassandra Trelawney. The year of our Lord, 1908."

That would answer a lot of questions and likely raise even more but she wasn't ready to offer more. Her head pulsed and she groaned, pressing her palms to her temples. She had never expected that her ability would need to... realign and it would be so very painful.

"Oh, that's...unexpected, that' for sure." She wasn't sure why, since Dumbledore had come from whatever the hell year he had come, but it was Dumbledore. The only Trelawney she knew was Sybil, the former professor.

"Savannah Monroe, 2028 before I was plucked out of time and arrived in 2038." Savannah crouched down and ran her hand over the woman's arm in comfort. "Are you all right? Do you need me to carry you inside. Don't know how much help it'll be since we don't have a healer, but we do have beds and people who can help." There had to be potions ready.

If there was one thing Savannah was good at, it was filling the silence and she kept talking to give the woman the time she obviously needed. "You're at Hogwarts. We all live here now. There's over a dozen of us, but I was the only woman until now. I'm glad I got some company. We'll need to find you some everyday clothes, but there's so much and none of the women's clothes has been raided so you get first pick. Let me know when you're all right to stand up."

A low chuckle escaped her. Unexpected? She wryly wondered what that was like but of course, she still had unexpected things happen to her every day. If she had known everything, life wouldn't exactly be worth it, would it? "Oh, that explains it... A hundred and thirty years," she pinched the bridge of her nose, forehead and nose scrunched tightly, "I just need to stay here for a moment."

Gradually, it was getting better and there wasn't a damned thing a healer could do for her anyway. She'd tried every potion and herbal mixture she could think of but her headaches were monsters and this one was even worse. At the very least, she could listen and gather information. Arriving at Hogwarts was no surprise as she had recognized the castle in her vision but there being 'over a dozen--she didn't understand that part. Clothes seemed superfluous but it was likely meant as a topic of comfort - something they both understood.

As the headache receded a bit more, she reached out - a silent signal of 'please help me up.' "What do you mean 'over a dozen'? Should Hogwarts not be full this time of year?" This was the first time she was actually getting a good look at Savannah. Things certainly had... changed, hadn't they? "I Saw that I would come here but the when or the why didn't come to me," she noted as if that explained everything.

"You're taking it well." Savannah frowned. Who skipped a hundred and thirty years and simply accepted it. She had made Remus go through plenty of hoops before she believed that he hadn't lost his mind.

"That's okay. We can take this as slow as you need." Savannah hated to see people in pain, probably one of the reasons she could never be a healer. That and she hated being stuck instead studying when she could fly. "Here, let's get you up," she said when Cassandra seemed ready.

She cast a quick drying spell on Cassandra's clothes. The ground was still covered in now and it couldn't be pleasant for the other woman, or wouldn't be once she felt better. "It should, except that the Ministry was fucking up with some spells so people had children. It backfired and every wizard and witch in the Kingdom died by 2030 or just about. We don't know the exact date. Hogwarts got tired of being empty and is starting to bring people back from the past. Until now I was the only woman." She smiled at Cassandra. "Well, you got more than the rest of us got. We got nothing at all. How exactly did you see that you'd come here?"

Cassandra chuckled darkly, not sure having her head nearly ripped in two by its own power was 'taking it well' but she supposed Savannah meant more that she wasn't screaming in terror. Either she had gone mad (which she knew she hadn't) or it was real and there was no point in fighting the strangest magic she'd ever seen or heard of. But she said none of this. Not yet.

Carefully, with Savannah's help, she got her feet under her again and rose up out of the snow. She hadn't noticed the cold or the wet from the intensity of the pain until it was no longer there. "Ah, thank you," she offered with a small smile. This one was a good one. Not bothering with the ridiculous questions of whether or not she needed help - just actions and she appreciated that.

"Mm, that sounds about right for the Ministry in any era," Cassandra couldn't help rolling her eyes slightly. Quite casually, she tucked her arm in Savannah's as if they were the very best of friends though mostly she needed the support to soldier on into the castle. A fond smile was turned upon the gray stones and towers of Hogwarts. Of course, it had. "I'm a Seer - a prophetess. All that. So this," she gestured to her head, "I can only assume that it's... readjusting to the timeline."

"You're very welcome. You didn't seem in any state to cast any magic." Or to do anything. She reminded Savannah of something of the drunken girls who hang around her father.

Savannah laughed. "I'm sorry, but that's- no matter the gender, the status or the year we come from, that seems to be the one reaction that is common to all of us when we find out about what they did. We all have the faith in politicians."

She summoned her broom and caught it with her free hand while letting Cassandra use her arm for support. She blamed her focus on the broom for her reaction when Cassandra's words penetrated. "Holy shit, you are that Cassandra. One of your descendant, Sybil, taught Divination at the school. You are part of the books, which doesn't seem as important at the moment." She softened her tone. "I'm sorry about the readjusting. It looks like it's a bitch, but we'll get you to a room, a bed, some tea and it'll already be better than here. I'm in the Hufflepuff dormitory with my Dad who's much younger than he should be. We have plenty of rooms, though. You can come and stay there if you like. On my side alone there are six empty rooms. We do share the living room, which is the old common room. You're happy to get your own room of course. I just thought you might like the company. Or maybe I'd like the company. There's so many bloody men around."

That was the truth of it. At least she could still feel her wand in the hidden pocket of her skirt. It had made the trip and that was what mattered. But the laugh made her smile even if it also made her head throb, "Well, the secret is - only fools, idiots, and dreamers ever enter politics. And the dreamers don't last long." Which left them surrounded by fools and idiots in important places.

Ah, there it was - the recognition. So she was in the textbooks now. It was unsurprising but it was nice to know that one of her family had been teaching at the school. Savannah was certainly a talker, wasn't she? It was rather a mile a minute but if she was carrying the conversation then Cassandra could focus on keeping her balance. "A Hufflepuff," she murmured with that fond smile returning, "I should have known."

Of course, Savannah was a Hufflepuff. All the signs were there - the best of the houses, in her opinion, even over her own Ravenclaw. Who could hate the black-and-yellow? "I appreciate the offer but I think perhaps I should settle in the North Tower. I believe there's an apartment there but if there's not, I'll turn the office into one. If my descendant was teaching here, some of my things may be present."

"I'd have to agree. My maternal grandparents wanted me to go into the Ministry. I'm good with Charms and transfiguration. They thought it'd give some respectability to the family. My dad is a rock star, my mother never married him, but I disappointed them and became a Quidditch player like my aunt and my paternal grandmother. I'll leave the politics to those fools, idiots and dreamers." She frowned. "I think that's why there are a lot of Gryffindors in politics despite the fact that Slytherins are the ambitious types.

Savannah laughed again. "I know, it's terribly obvious. I'm the one that ends up apologising to the opposing team after we beat them, but I feel bad for them. Besides, being kind doesn't cost us anything and it makes all of us happier."

She smiled. "Oh the office still has her things but she was... very much a lover of the doom and gloom in the classroom. I'm pretty sure her quarters would be much better suited. There's so few of us and so many rooms that the castle is happy to get things ready for you."

"Quidditch is a perfectly acceptable profession," especially for women. They had such a long history within the sport, from the very first records of the game. It wasn't something Cassandra had ever done - there was always a risk that she'd have a vision in the middle of the game and drop off her broom. Or perhaps find herself accused of 'cheating' by knowing what would happen. But despite this, she was looking at Savannah a bit... curiously. Generally speaking, bastard children did not reveal they were bastards. The jab at Gryffindors was so sudden that it shocked her out of her thoughts and her rough snort of a laugh caused her to cough. "Christ, lass, you're going to kill me after I've come so far."

The first steps going from the courtyard to flagstones were heavy, weighted with 130-years of absence. How else had the world had shifted? She wasn't sure she wanted to know but it would be forced on her anyway. "I would argue that being kind sometimes does cost something - but not in that situation, true."

Doom and gloom in the class? Cassandra huffed a laugh, "The life of a Seer is often... Dark like that. Though inflicting it on children is a little suspect." And she wondered what this Sibyll was like then. But she supposed she would find out as she sorted through her descendant's things and cleaned up after her. It hit her then that she was now the last of the Trewlaney line, perhaps the last of the druid Trelawneys as well if it didn't survive in other places. Cassandra's blood ran cold and a shiver followed the ice in her veins.

"Oh I know, but I think they just wanted something that wouldn't make me famous. With Dad, our faces were on the covers of too many magazines. Not as much as Mr. Potter's, but then no one was in the papers as much as he was." She chuckled. "That is hardly my intention but soon enough you'll have plenty of men throwing stuff at you, so I figured I'd give you the less life-and-death vision of life."

Savannah shrugged. "It does, I suppose, but I feel that most people never take that option even when it costs nothing and would make things easier. A smile, a friendly hand can go a long way." She'd never stop believing that.

"She collected prophecies that her students made, but they were always the ones where people died terrible deaths. One saved kitten? A happy birth? How is it that there was never one positive prophecy?" It was the hardest part of the class. Not the fake prophecies they saw, but the real ones. "Are you okay? Are you chilly? We can find you a heavier cloak if you like."

"I'm glad you were able to do what made you happy instead. Though I don't know who 'Mr. Potter' is." She knew too many women who would have done as their families wished for them - but their times were so different. Of course, the Trelawneys were outliers but she could hardly know that. As for the men, well, she was used to that and she would handle it as it came.

She hummed softly and then gave Savannah a slight nod of agreement, "I'll give you that, aye. It is so much easier to close your eyes and keep them closed."

Sibyll's class sounded... honestly terrible. What in the Hell had happened to the noble art of divination? She frowned deeply, "There are positive prophecies. The negative ones simply feel direr. But I have done many a reading for lasses for finding love or the wellness of an unborn babe or will the crops survive the season..." As for her chill, she shook her head slightly, "I realized the severity of our situation is all."

"No, you wouldn't know. Harry Potter survived the killing curse at age eighteen months, vanishing one of the most powerful dark wizard. When this wizard, Voldemort, returned years later, he was the one to kill him again surviving the killing curse. They made him Auror at seventeen without his NEWTs, became the youngest Head Auror at twenty-six and apparently he became Minister in the last months of our world," Savannah explained. "He's a national hero. We even had a bank holiday on his birthday."

She smiled at Cassandra. "Something like that, yes."

She chuckled. "I'm sure there are. Trelawney was... very much in love with the doom and gloom for some reason. If you wanted to pass the class, you only had to 'predict' something that killed lots of people and you'd get a great grade. Honestly, I think that class was a waste of time. You can learn the basics, but you can't learn to see the future and if you can, then no one taught it to us." She nodded. "That will do it. But you can count of me if you need anything. I know it'll be even harder for you coming from so far back."

That was quite the list and she disliked that so much of that was lumped onto one boy. What were the Fates playing at? No one deserved that much responsibility or tragedy because there was no way that had ended with much happiness. "I shall endeavor to pretend I know nothing at all then," she decided firmly, "To give him perhaps a little sense of normal."

Her frown increased as Savannah went on. "How could my family have fallen so bloody far?" she asked, more to herself than expecting an answer. "Everyone has a touch of the Eye - as when you have a moment of surprise and realize 'I have dreamt this before.' But true Sight can't be taught, I'm afraid. That is not to say you can't learn some things - tea leaves, palmistry, that sort of thing. You can learn to read the signs." She didn't mention that accuracy would be shakey as it wasn't important. This wasn't a lesson and she wasn't a professor.

The corners of her mouth briefly perked up. "I have no idea what to expect coming this far," she admitted in a hushed tone as if it were a secret, "It's thrilling, not knowing. It doesn't happen as often as I would like."

"I'm pretty sure that he's used to people knowing. It must weirder for him when people don't know, but you do what you think best." In the end, that was the best policy in everything.

Savannah shrugged. "Maybe, because once someone reaches the top, the only way to go is down," she said, matter-of-fact. "You want to be like that person who was the best but if you can't be, you end up becoming a parody of what you want to be." She nodded. "I supposed we do, but I really do think that the class should only be up to a certain level, to give everyone the basics and to see who really does have the sight. I got my NEWTs in Divination, but honestly, I'm crap at it. I just predicted the death of my relatives on a weekly basis and since they are famous, I got excellent grades. The school will need a better professor once we bring the students here. You should speak to Headmaster Snape and see if you can teach it the right way. It'd be a nice change."

Savannah grinned. "Well, most people hate that but I can see why you'd like it. Still if it gets too different, you can always ask me."

"I would imagine that he'd almost be desperate for chances to just be a normal man. No expectations other than basic human decency," she shrugged her shoulders, deciding that yes, this would likely be the best option.

But who, in her family, was the best then? There were still women in between her and this Sibyll so it never occurred to her that it might be Cassandra herself. Her ego wasn't that large. Still, with a tilt of her head, she conceded the argument to Savannah. It was a decent point. "If that were the way of it, then there would be years where there were no students at all in the upper levels of the class. Not to say that I disagree, of course." Only she did wonder if it would then go the way of alchemy and only be in session if there were enough interest. Speaking to the Headmaster would be interesting. Some were extremely against Divination as a whole.

"I appreciate your nature of simply giving without waiting to be asked," she confessed, smiling, "The question 'do you need assistance' or its ilk always feel like probing for an excuse to walk away." It was funny, she thought to herself as she glanced around, the castle never really did change, did it? Even things that should have looked older were practically identical to what Cassandra remembered.

"Possible. I guess he failed through his life. When I was younger, everyone wanted him to be Minister, but he kept saying that he'd never become minister and then the end of the world happens and he's forced to take charge and now, he's back here and in charge." She didn't know how Mr. Potter's father dealt with that. Possibly better than his children would if they were here.

Savannah shrugged. "And if that's the way, that's the way. No matter how many NEWTs I got in Divination, I'd never have your gift, would I? Then again, you were one of the best in history so I'm not sure many had your gift but you know what I mean." She felt that it was a waste of time to teach people like her.

"You're welcome. Some think that I'm a little overbearing, but I find that people who say 'let me know if you need help' don't really want to help. If someone wants to help then just do it, right? And besides, total women's solidarity right now. In the future too. I hope there are more women. It's just nice to talk to a woman sometimes, you know?"

Understanding the responsibility that came with a heavy weight on one's shoulders, she understood that Potter, whoever he was, likely had done the best he could. But once there was that level of responsibility on someone, people just kept expecting it over and over. Fix their problems for them.

Ah... So she was the paragon of the Trelawney family. The legacy she had left behind had ultimately doomed her progeny. That honestly put it all together in a way that made perfect sense. "No, you wouldn't. But I don't believe that locking away a level of education would benefit anyone. Knowing the more intricate parts of Divination and its theories would allow someone to spot the charlatans of the world, I would hope."

She smiled along as Savannah agreed with her. Excellent. They would get along quite well, she suspected, even moreso than they already did. "I don't think I've ever met a man that really understood a woman but I appreciate the ones who try."

"No, not locking away. I'm just not sure what the solution is," Savannah admitted. She wasn't one to pretend that she had all the answer, but she was happy to raise the questions and let others come to some conclusion.

"I agree. Dad tries. Or he tries for me, but he's also a dog and hasn't met a pretty woman he hasn't flirted with." Despite the words, there was a genuine affection in her voice. "Come on let's get inside and get some tea and then I'll tell you all about the rest of the people here."
