Ereshkigal opened her mouth to reply, before she'd really considered her answer. But before she could say anything, Enlil was looking at his son again, and this time, he had the look of a father. There was affection in his expression. Affection and, unless she missed her guess, pride.
Which was what she wanted. Even though she had some fears about how Enlil would want to exercise his fatherly rights, there was no question at all that she wanted him involved with Namtar. Her brother was an amazing man, and while they might not always agree, she respected him.
"You are his father," she affirmed, though she knew that wasn't really her brother's question. So she didn't bother explaining that Namtar was the surprising result of the one afternoon they'd had a rather intimate interlude. That much would be obvious.
Less obvious, she supposed, was what brought them to this specific point.
"I wasn't sure," Ereshkigal said with an unusual hint of uncertainty in her voice. "I wasn't sure how he'd react. Irkalla has a strong hold on me, you know that I cannot go to the Heights Above, and I only rarely visit here. So I was cautious until I was sure he would be well. Today is his first visit outside of Irkalla."
She paused, hoping that he would understand. It wasn't that she'd intended to keep their child a secret. She'd done what she had to keep him safe.
