Her head jerked up in surprise when he called out to her. She really had not been expecting anyone to start a conversation with her. Especially since she didn’t see anyone around that seemed capable of speaking. The trees bounced the sounds around too much to make it easy to figure out what direction the voice had come from.
Artemis looked around her surroundings again. She still did not see anyone. Whoever was talking to her was very, very good at hiding.
“Venison is always a good meal,” she replied. “Perhaps I will hunt for a younger animal, though. Unless you have another suggestion.” Where was he? If she kept him talking, maybe she could pinpoint his location.
