The second Seshat left him, Hermes disappeared back to his temple. There was NO WAY he was going to see Thoth after hitting on his wife!
It wasn't that Hermes had never attempted to seduce a wife while in her husband's home. He was Zeus' son, and such boundaries rarely inconvenienced the young god. This was altogether different. It was...just, no.
It didn't matter that it was a case of mistaken identity. Thoth was a good friend, and practically his mentor, and Hermes could think of no greater insult. So he ran away and hid.
He should have known better. It didn't work with Apollo and the cows, and it seemed it wasn't going to work now. The message was clear: Thoth was here, in Greece, and wanted to see him. Which meant he knew and wanted to confront the younger god.
Well, damn.
It wasn't that he was afraid of being physically hurt. Thoth wasn't like that, and weapons weren't his style. He was more worried that he'd just lost a very good friend.
As Hermes appeared before Thoth, his usually charming way with words escaped him completely. "Look, I didn't...I wouldn't...I didn't know she was your wife, I swear."
