Nyx struggled with the idea of darkness and chaos being though of as purely evil. Dangerous, certainly. Mysterious, definitely. And on occasion those traits could lead to terrible outcomes, but only when used inappropriately. Fire could warm and cook, or it could burn and destroy. Water was needed to sustain life, but it could take it just as easily. Darkness and chaos were much the same, as were most of the aspects controlled by her children.
“I think,” she said carefully, “that it must be very different. Very different indeed. Darkness is my husband, and Chaos is our mother, and I... I'm beginning to think that there is a reason I had not yet met your night deities. And I believe I shall keep it that way.”
Then she gave him a smile. This was their first meeting after all, and she didn't think it was the time to venture into philosophical discussions. That could be saved for a later date. “I believe I shall concentrate on the sun. That is what you are, is it not? You are not just the day or the light, but the sun, yes?”
She didn't want to offend him by misunderstanding, but that was what she thought his pictures had meant. And he said the serpent was trying to swallow the sun, so she assumed he meant himself. But she could tell how very old and powerful this god was, so slighting him would be imprudent. It was better to be safe. Besides, she was hoping to further this friendship.
