There was much she wanted to address, but she decided to first allay his fears for her safety. “No, it does not cause me pain,” she assured him. “I am not hurt, just a bit... uncomfortable. I had to learn how to manage such things with the birth of my first children, Aither and Hemera. Light and Day.”
If any had ever considered it odd that Night and Darkness had created Light and Day, they were wise to keep such opinions to themselves. There was no mistaking Nyx's pride when she spoke of her children, and though she never played favorites, Aither and Hemera had been her first, so they would always be special.
“It is easier,” she admitted, “at dawn and dusk. And easier for you, I'd imagine, since you apparently do battle at night. Or is that just a metaphor? Did I misunderstand the drawing? With the snake?”
It was a question that Nyx truly wanted an answer for. It had been since she'd seen the drawing of him fighting the serpent and its minions. Was the night here truly that terrifying? Come to think of it, Nyx had not met the divinity who ruled the night in this area. Just how terrible was her counterpart? And how did she prove that not everything in the dark was horrible?
