Sigyn was waiting for a reply, but the response she got was not exactly coherent. Because it was the howl of a wolf, and from very close by. Squashnose and all three of his companions turned to look that direction. Sigyn thought this might be her chance, she could jst ease the other way and slip off into the woods. Except a howl came from the direction that she'd been about to escape. Then another howl, and another. With each lupine cry, the jotun turned to look and Sigyn started to hope they'd get dizzy. But that wasn't going to be enough to get her out of here.
When the next howl came, Sigyn stepped behind the smallest of the frost giants and gave him a little push toward the direction the sound had come from. Putting pure panic in her own inflection, she cried, 'Wolves! We're surrounded by wolves! You have to protect me!”
After her conversation in the cave with Loki, Sigyn was far less worried about wolves than she once was. He'd said most of the time the were just saying hello, or bonding with the pack. Somehow she didn't think that was what was happening here, though, since it sounded like they were circling them. But Sigyn would still rather take her chances with the wolves than with the jotun.
“Do something!” she demanded of her captors. “You have to protect me!”
Sigyn had expected them to form ranks of some kind and focus their energy on the wolves, allowing her the chance to slip away. She had not expected Squashnose to all but throw her at the trees with a growled, “They can have you!”
Apparently he was hoping that if the wolves were busy eating her, they would be less inclined to attack the rest of them. Wasn't that noble, she thought dryly. She was now close enough to the woods that another step would have her behind a tree. But taking that step would mean negating her act of wanting them to rescue her and would they just chase her down again? How did she make this work to her advantage?
Sigyn hesitated, wondering if there really was a wolf nearby, waiting to drag her off.
