The tracks puzzled Tyr. He'd not meant to linger in the woods, but the fresh and peculiar markings had peaked his interest. Feet, human, probably a female by the size. Highly unusual in these woods. And deer tracks. A very small deer. One following the other.
He might have thought the person was hoping to follow the animal for a meal, but it seemed unlikely. People avoided these woods named for him for a reason. And the tracks indicated an animal too small to be worth that much effort.
Then he saw the new tracks. Generally, wolves didn't bother Tyr. He'd gone up agains the largest wolf imaginable, and for whatever may have come of that, it meant the smaller ones held no real threat. Small in comparison, of course. But they were headed in the same direction and appeared to have angled in, obviously following as well. Not good.
Tyr did the only sensible thing he could think of; he popped in and out of Concept, hoping to be able to approach from the front while the wolves were coming from behind. Hoping against hope that he would get there before them, though they certainly had speed on their side, and while the tracks were fresh, he had no idea how many minutes had gone by.
It took a couple tries, and he almost gave up hope before finally spotting something ahead in the distance. As they got closer to each other, Tyr couldn't believe his eyes. A woman was leading a fawn by some sort of makeshift rope. Of the wolves, he saw nothing, but he knew they were close. Close enough that the woman appeared to have been alerted to their presence and was trying to speed the young deer along.
"Hail!" Tyr called. Hurrying up to her, he gave her a look of concern, mixed with just a bit of disapproval. "You shouldn't be here." His presence might be enough to turn the pack away, if they were lucky, but that wasn't his only worry. "You've got a pack of wolves trailing you, if you haven't noticed. And believe me, there are worse things in this forest than them."
