It was the perfect marriage of horrified shock and hidden amusement. Looking at Bragi, Idun couldn't help but laugh, and she realized it was the sort of laughter that could wipe away even the most terrible of occurrences. They had lived through something terrible, though through most of it, Bragi had been the only one of them truly living. They had lived through something terrible, and survived, and now everything was bright again. Beautiful again. There was a blanket over their heads, and the glow from the fire was casting warm shadows over her husband. There was no white. There was no blue. All the terrible shades of frost and cold were gone, and the only blue in sight came from her husband's beautiful, beautiful eyes. Even as the laughter faded into a gentle smile, Idun couldn't find it in her to apologize. She had gone against what Bragi had asked of her, but this was better. His hand took hers, and Idun could feel his fingers, and there was nothing to apologize for.
"I'm not sorry," Idun told him, because Bragi deserved the truth. She recalled her earlier feelings of regret and lifted their intertwined hands to press gentle kisses to his fingers. This was real. They were really home, and there was a fire in their hearth, and even warmer fires burning in their hearts. Idun held his hand a bit tighter as she lowered it into her lap. His glare failed, but Idun tried not to reveal as much. He was trying very hard.
Her other hand mysteriously made it to the back of Bragi's neck. The short, dark curls were damp from melted snow, but Idun didn't mind. She had missed playing with his hair. Idun decided that she would never, ever miss this again. She'd do it so often, she'd risk growing tired of it, just to avoid missing it. "I agree to all your terms," she whispered. All it took was a tiny bit of shifting to get their faces close, and then it was only reasonable to kiss him. They were so close, what excuse did she have not to? "We'll get the broom, and move east, and you will never, ever lose me. Not tonight. Not ever. I swear it." Idun didn't lean away. Her forehead touched his. She hadn't truly been home until that moment, until she got that close to her husband. "You're all I need, Bragi. You complete me. Tonight. Always."
