She just slid. She just slid right off as quick as she'd like before Bragi could do anything. Before Bragi could make a sound. And now she was across from him. Right on his level. On the ground. It was so blatant his jaw dropped a little. “Hey!” Bragi said. His tone was sharp reproach with a hint of indignation. At the same time, he reached over and laced his fingers with her free hand.
“That is not staying,” he protested, “This definitely falls strictly into moving territory. Now there isn't even one on you.” He looked up at the blanket ceiling. “That one doesn't count” he amended. It was the spirit of the law, not the letter. Bragi concentrated. He widened his eyes, then squinted them. He opened one a bit wider than the other. Bragi tried to focus harder on Idun, but her expression made him laugh. He didn't even have to ask her whether or not his withering was successful that time.
“I'm very upset about this,” Bragi said instead. At the same, he squeezed her hand, and buried his head a bit deeper into her palm. His eyelids drooped for the tiniest second. Without moving his head, Bragi's eyes glanced around the blanket dwelling. For a second they lingered on his wife's lips, before they made it back to her eyes again. “I suppose this is a feasible strategy,” he conceded. Even though 'over' and 'on' were not the same thing. The corners of his lips turned upwards. “East would be the best direction. We could use the broom to raise the ceiling in the middle, get more air space that way too.” He bit down on his lip a little. “You know, before tonight, I always thought we had an inordinate excess of blankets anyway.” Combining their store had set them up well enough. Then there'd been all the gifted ones. Bragi reached up and pulled one of the blankets down on Idun's legs. “That one stays on,” he said. He smiled a small half smile, and touched her cheek with his hand, then gently put his hand back down, running his fingers lightly through a strand of her hair on the way. His speaking pace slowed and his tone got softer. “I don't want to lose you. Not tonight.. Or ever,” he said.
