Her cave. He was talking about her cave. And it absolutely was hers. She'd just stocked it, she'd spent several hours prepping to weather the storm in it, it was full of her hard work, so it was hers. But she could see by the stubborn look on his face that he'd probably argue that with her. And she supposed she couldn't really blame him, given their most recent exchange.
Teasing him was coming back to bite her in the rump now, wasn't it? Holda always said she needed to think before she spoke or it was going to get her in trouble. And Sigyn liked to think she'd gotten better with that than she'd been when she was younger. But this was one of those instances where she wished she'd paid more attention to her foster-mother. Whoops.
But she wasn't about to be put out in the cold just because he was feeling cranky. He could be stubborn all he liked; she was pretty damn stubborn too and she wasn't giving up her cave to him. But she would be willing to share it. It wasn't like she could leave him out in the middle of the storm, so she really didn't have much choice. Might as well make the best out of it, because moaning over it was going to make waiting out the storm miserable in the mean time if she didn't.
Still, she made her own stance clear when she said, “My shelter is just ahead. It's a cozy little cave with a small mouth so I brought in shrubs to block it off from the wind, and I've been stocking it with wood for a fire. Also cut some pine boughs to sleep on because this isn't going to be over quickly.”
With a sigh, Sigyn offered, “I'll tell you what, since I already have a bunch of supplies laid in, and the storm is getting worse, I'll overlook all the insults you just threw at me and let you share my cave. Because I missed my last bitch lesson, and that's the one that covered kicking people out into the cold.”
Without waiting for him to reply, because he'd done it to her twice now, Sigyn pushed past him and walked off, aiming straight for her shelter. There was something inside her that wanted to beat him to that cave. Because if she got there first, there was no doubt at all that it was hers. Which meant that she'd get to make the rules. A little grin turned the corners of her lips, and she sped up.
