Sigyn blinked when a box was pushed under her nose. She took it, about to ask what it was for, when he began talking about some herb. In the purple pouch. She opened the box, only to find it contained any number of pouches of various colors. Locating the one he'd mentioned, Sigyn opened it and took a sniff. He was right, it did look like pine needles, but the pungent, pleasant aroma was definitely not piney. And it would go well with the rabbit. And probably game birds, she thought.
Since he gave her permission, she began exploring some of the other pouches as well. “Would you like--” She took a sniff of the blue pouch and wrinkled up her nose to contain a sneeze. “To roast the rabbit tonight and then we can--” The green pouch was very savory, though she couldn't quite place it. It would go well with the dried broad beans and peas in her pack. “Have it with barley porridge now and put the leftovers in the pot to--” Oh, she did not like what was in the orange pouch. “Make stew for tomorrow? I think that should--”
Oh!
OH!
The red pouch was hot! Hot hot hot! Tongue on fire hot! Sigyn sucked air in through her teeth to try to cool her mouth, completely losing track of what she'd been saying. Well, he had warned her that some of them might be spicy. Sigyn carefully tucked the red pouch back into the box.
As he was busy preparing the rabbit, and her tongue was too hot to talk, she began pulling things out of her pack. The pot was small, but it would do to make porridge, and hopefully big enough to hold the remains of the rabbit for the stew. She had some dried onion to make the barley porridge flavorful and that brown pouch seemed like that spice would go well with it too. She move the packet of broad beans aside, along with the dried peas. In the very bottom of her pack, wrapped in an oiled cloth, was a bit of smoked fish. But they could save that in case the storm grew worse than anticipated. For tonight, she was only interested in the barley and the tiny wedge of cheese. It wasn't much, but she'd only anticipated feeding herself, and she was at the end of her trip. She's already used a good chunk of her supplies.
When Loki spoke, Sigyn looked up from where she was unwrapping the cheese. The pelt? Her eyes dropped to his hands, then she blinked. “Thank you, that's a generous offer,” she finally replied, though her tongue was still tingling. “Where did you get all these spices? I mean, I know you travel. I was curious as to where specifically. I haven't been... far. Women don't get to go adventuring. That I went on this trip by myself is probably going to earn me another lecture. But you must have seen some really interesting things, haven't you?”
