Bragi's smile became warmer and he shook the hand offered to him. Two pumps only. Firm, but not too firm. Few people realized all the science involved in doing this exactly right. “Sigyn” he repeated. “That's lovely. I've heard it mentioned a few times. You're a good friend of my stepmother's? The one who doesn't enjoy spinning? One of Holda's children?” Bragi had heard a few other things too, but he didn't mention them. Her personal life was hers to keep personal unless she brought it up herself.
“I'm sorry we've never been introduced before,” Bragi said, “I learned all the names of Frigg's handmaidens and always meant to meet each of them and attach the names to the faces but I never quite got around to them all. You're one of the many I missed.” He couldn't quite seem to keep on top of it. Keeping track of the names was hard enough, and generally keeping track of names came very easily. It was his job. Well, not technically, but at least unofficially. Bragi couldn't do a lot of what his brothers did. But he could at least be useful that way.
Why did she know where Bragi's wife was, and why was she there to tell him? He peered at her, confused. During her pause, Bragi felt like he was falling off a cliff. That was definitely a bedside manner pause. It brought to Bragi's mind, Sigyn's other connection. Loki hadn't gotten Idun kidnapped by a frost giant again, had he? One time, Bragi could try to be understanding. It had been terrible, but there were obviously extenuating circumstances beyond Loki's control, and Bragi knew that Loki cared too much for Idun to intentionally bring her harm. But twice? Once was already once too many. Bragi and Idun had a rule about this now.
One second later the pause ended and Bragi blinked. Then he tried very hard not to laugh. Sigyn's warning had been offered with the best of intentions and Bragi did not want to laugh at it, but the mental picture of Loki and Idun gazing longingly at each other didn't help. Then Loki reached for Idun's hand, and Bragi lost it. He laughed. “That's perfectly alright” Bragi said to reassure her. “Loki and Idun are very old friends. He did kiss her once. Right before Idun and I got married. Idun said it was like kissing her brother, but in a bad way, since they aren't Greek. If they are currently together, they're probably talking about you right now.”
