Oh. Scratch that. She obviously wasn't after him. If the goddess had been on a warpath before, she'd now taken a break, or was regrouping, or something. But it didn't really seem to be that kind of a thing anymore. This was something else entirely. Bragi smiled. Then he bit his lower lip. Wait. What entirely was this then?
Her tone was sweet and sincere when she'd turned the request back on him, but the way she didn't specify what she was going to help him with made it seem rather ominous. Bragi wracked his mind trying to find any hidden affliction that only an outside eye could see. Whatever ones he had, they remained hidden. Bragi didn't like that his presence had caused this kind of shift. She had bedside manner.
He nodded, and smiled at her. “I go by Bragi for short,” he said. Husband was a vague identifier, while the one married to the apple maiden was more specific as to who he was, but it was also a bit of a mouthful. Bragi offered her his hand, “And you are?” He hoped her name would shed some kind of light on this, but needed to know it anyway.
“She told me this morning she was going out with a friend. She didn't specify where or who,” Bragi said. He didn't like where this was going. It made him nervous. Had something happened? If there'd been an accident, she wouldn't have nearly barreled past him with such fierce determination. If it wasn't an accident, what could get a reaction like that? Maybe Bragi was misreading her tone. “Do you need her for something?” he asked. Bragi kept his own tone even. No need to react until he had all the information.
