Since it was being so thoughtfully offered without the pesky barrage of ‘what are you doing here’ and the ever so tiresome ‘how did you even get in here’ that tended to be most adult reactions to Melinoe was accustomed to receiving, she accepted the cup of tea with both hands, not caring if he’d been drinking from it before. Sharing, after all, was a very thoughtful trait and she appreciated it.
“Thank you.” She said with perfect seriousness, putting her mouth to the rim and taking a sip. Good. Sweet. Still hot but not enough to burn. The herbs made her tongue tingle. Not because of the flavor but out of that indefinable force that linked her nature to plants. It was excellent tea, sweet but with the right taste of mellow from the milk to make it go down smoothly. Melinoe was deeply involved with the cup but not so much that she took her eyes off the god as he made an effort to lower himself down into a squat. Which she appreciated though it wasn’t necessary. The small civilities were always appreciated.
Hypnos, then. She studied him over the tea mutely, comparing him to her favorite Uncle figure and to her sometimes-puppy companion. Good to know that her logical skills were developing nicely though it hadn’t been a hard one to figure out. He seemed more capable of emoting than Thanatos did, though nowhere near as oddly exuberant as Phobetor. Well, no one was quite like Phobetor.
“Greetings to you. I am Melinoe.” Then she thought for a bit, eyeing the surface of the tea, which was now a shallow layer at the bottom of the cup. Was she still hungry or was that enough? “Yes. I am, but I can go back home.” She sipped again, savoring the last of the tea and not offering to go merely out of politeness. As far as she was concerned she had solved the mystery of whose temple lay in the shadow of Nyx’s and so far there didn’t seem anything too interesting in the rooms unless a surplus of plush places to sleep counted. Melinoe also had the suspicion that she’d caught him minutes away from a nap. If she’d done the same thing to her father he would have been displeased.
