Hypnos smiled as he made the tea, listening to her theory on Than's sleeping behavior. It was well thought out and logical, and not simply with a child's logic. The girl was really rather clever, and definitely curious. If this was the sort of playmate his son had found, Sleep approved. She could only be good company for his restless Dream, perhaps she would help him focus some of his boundless energy. Hypnos didn't want him to lose that energy that made Phobetor Phobetor, but Melinoe seemed the sort to make a person think. Perhaps Phobetor helped Melinoe to play.
Though he knew, he should not be judging the girl on her current actions and words. She was obviously on her best behavior, and the daughter of a king and queen was taught the proper manners early on. Melinoe was certainly doing them proud in that regard. But bits of her personality bubbled to the surface, and what Hypnos was seeing of her, he genuinely liked.
Setting the cup in front of her on the table, he moved to retrieve some baklava as he'd promised her pastries as well. While he did so, he nodded and said, “That is a very good theory. Perhaps yours is the right one. My theory is that Thanatos doesn't like to cause a fuss. You know how very polite he is. I think he thinks that if he sleeps in a bed, he'll be putting someone out.”
Hypnos sat at the table with the girl, waiting for her to finish her baklava. Once she was done, he would see her back to Hades' temple. Though he had no intention of telling the Underworld king just where his daughter had been, or how he had found her inside his home. Hyp thought that curiosity should be encouraged in children, and he didn't wish for Melinoe to think that hers was something she should be ashamed of or want to change. Adults viewed such things differently. There would be enough situations in her life for Hades to correct and guide her toward the young woman she would become. Today, this would just be an adventure she would be able to look back upon someday. One that ended with tea and treats.
