Freedom's Just Another Word [Not Long After Loki's Binding] (tag: Iris)
The first order of business had been to find a place to live, now that Bilskirner was no longer her home. At first she'd had no idea where to go or what to do, but Sif was not about to admit defeat. She wasn't sure Thor had ever understood how strong she really was.
It was that strength that got her through the recent events. Loki was bound, and if such things were to be believed, when next he got out it would mean the end of all. Bound, by her own husband's doing, though her daughter-in-law had no small share in the rest of it. How her son had ever fallen for that ice bitch was beyond Sif. At any rate, he was now forever beyond her grasp. Yet that had little mattered to Thor.
Loki's accusation had come as a shock to both of them. Thor had never suspected she had been unfaithful, and for her part she had never imagined her former lover would betray their secret. What had he been thinking? She knew he'd been drunk, but that still didn't make sense. She blamed herself. She had tried to placate him, calm him with her words, yet it had only seemed to stir him more. Loki's senses had all but run away.
Once he knew, Thor no longer wanted anything to do with her. Which was what had led to her current situation. There was so much about Asgard that had disgusted her, yet it was the only home she knew, and now it was far behind her. She kept telling herself it was for the best, and maybe it would be. Sif's greatest regret, however, was what it all must have done to the children. She could only imagine what they thought of her now. In time, perhaps they would come to understand. It was what she had to believe.
Not having any idea where to go, Sif had been fortunate enough to find the Sviar tribe. They claimed their kings were descendants of Freyr, which was a plus in her book. Better a Vanir than an Aesir at this point. At least if he found her there, he would likely give her a little slack. Freyr understood matters of the heart.
Sif had explained she and her husband had a dwelling deep in the forest, but times had been hard. Her husband was now off with the king, acquiring more lands. Hardly an unlikely scenario. At first she'd considered telling them she was newly widowed, but as unlikely as it was, if Thor came looking for her she didn't want those kinds of questions. She also didn't want men thinking she was available- the last thing she needed was another entanglement.
Finally somewhat settled, she decided it was time to alert her dearest friend of the change in her circumstances. She'd considered contacting Iris the moment she stepped into Midgard, but she hadn't wanted to be a burden. Now, at least, she could tell her without looking pitiful at the same time.
She headed to a secluded area and called to her friend, sending a mental image of her location. As she did, she was hoping against hope that Hera hadn't recently sent her to Asgard. Sif would not want Iris finding out by accident.
