Bragi took the piece of apple with a friendly smile. He noticed that she was going with slivers instead of slices now, but wasn't quite sure what to make of it. It added to her mystery. He couldn't make his bites as small as hers were. He didn't think anyone could make their bites as small as she did, but Bragi did take smaller ones than he regularly would have. It was the polite thing to do, when you were the guest in someone else's orchard, and Bragi had been brought up to be polite. If his apple maid wanted to treat this apple like it was the last one she had, Bragi would too.
On the road, he'd had this very pretty mental image of the goddess among the apple trees, in crisp bright color. The reality was better. Bragi nodded. He did. He meant that more sincerely than he could have said. The orchard and her belonged together. Bragi silently apologized to the place for all of his past and future attempts to get in the way. It wouldn't stop him from trying, but at least he apologized. Bragi tilted his head slightly and met her eyes. “It would take a small leap of faith on your part. That's true” Bragi answered, “but I'd do my best to prove myself good for it. I'd catch you before you hit the ground.” He grinned then added. “I'm not an expert but I do have a little experience with picking apples.” He was talking about apples. Apple picking was what she had asked about.
The 'mysterious' other reason appeared to be lost on him. Bragi listened to her, a look of confusion evident on his features. He bit his lip while he listened. Then he bit the apple, and chewed while he pondered her implications. “I'm sorry. I'm not sure what you are specifically referring to,” Bragi admitted after a moment, “We walked. We talked while walking....Is that what you are referring to? I'm sorry. Eloquence is one of the things I am the god of so I tend to just accept conversation as a given when it comes to keeping company. I suppose that would count as another reason.” He smiled at her hopelessly. If she happened to be referring to something else, she'd have to be a bit more specific.
