Huge wings got in the way sometimes. Thanatos could make them vanish. He just didn't know how anymore. That was lost. But folding them seemed right, and at least he remembered how to do that. The only thing that he remembered for a few dragging moments after that was how wonderful the rain was. It was good he remembered what he did when he did. Otherwise Bast would still be missing out on the rain because of his wings.
"I don't know if the rain will matter," he told her. He sounded very serious for a high person, but not very serious for Than. Compared to his ordinary self, Thanatos still sounded downright chipper. "It's you. You're the sun. The sun always burns, even when it rains." But that made him smile. He didn't care if he was burning. It wasn't a bad thing. She wasn't something he wanted to stop staring at just because she caused blindness. How could Bast not know all this already?
Than tilted his head as her question wiggled through the rain and eventually made its way to his ears. There was a delay, but not a terrible one. The terrible delay came when he actually stopped to think about his answer. It felt terrible to Thanatos, anyway. He felt like he should know immediately. All of three seconds passed in reality. There was no proof that Thanatos was still in reality, though.
"Something...something." Than laughed quietly. He lifted one of his hands, curiously watching as he moved his fingertips along her shoulder. Thanatos could see the flecks of gold shimmering as he touched her. It was beautiful and pure and everything. She was just everything right then. "I have a theory. I'd want to test it. Even if I don't have permission. I usually make sure I have permission. I don't know why. It just seems like a rule." The flecks were still glimmering as his knuckles brushed down her upper arm.
Thanatos finally looked back at her. His hand went up higher this time, tracing a track of rain that started at her temple and followed the side of her face to her jaw. He left his hand there. It was all part of the theory. "You're...something." Thanatos didn't have the words anymore. She was gold, but that wasn't a good enough description. He leaned forward and their foreheads touched lightly for a moment.
