Bast wouldn't call herself jaded, by any stretch of the imagination. But she'd been around the block more than a few times, and in her life she'd been on the receiving end of adoration more than once. She'd had gods and goddesses, princes and princesses, and one very ambitious thief declare their undying love for her. She'd been called beautiful, gorgeous, a jewel beyond price. She'd heard every line in the book, including the one Thanatos had just used on her.
But it didn't sound like a line with him. All of the gold and heat stuff, she was pretty sure that could be attributed to whatever he'd taken. It still felt nice to be gushed over, but Bast wasn't foolish enough to think that it would last once the drugs wore off. When he said they didn't make them like her in Greece, though, there was something sweet and sincere about that statement. And who could resist being told they speak music? Certainly not a musically inclined goddess.
She smiled at him when he touched her cheek in return. Bast had meant it only as a kind gesture, because she felt just a little protective of him. It was cute that he mirrored the action. What came next though, caught her completely by surprise, and she stood perfectly still as he kissed her, completely missing her mouth. That he might have been aiming for her cheek didn't even cross her mind, because nobody tried to kiss her on her cheek but family. Anybody else that kissed her, kissed her.
So she smiled at Than and said, “But you didn't even get a good taste, so how would you know?” Bast set her hands on his cheeks, framing his smiling face, and quickly but surely pressed a soft kiss to his lips. “Still golden?”
Her arm slipped back through his, though she didn't start walking again. Bast was a little afraid, after the way he stopped, that starting abruptly might throw him off balance. She shuffled forward just a bit, in preparation to walk, to give him time to get used to the idea of forward momentum before she took the first step. “You like to garden? Isn't that hard in your underworld? Plants need sunlight, don't they?”
