"Of course," Thanatos said, nodding with this knowledge that made perfect sense of everything. It didn't explain the glow, but it did at the same time. Than smiled. Then he grinned. He felt his muscles sing with the spread of his smile. He really needed to do this more often. "You speak it. Music. Can you see?"
She had to be able to. Thanatos never noticed stuff like this, so if he was noticing, it had to be wildly apparent. That made the most sense of anything. Made more sense than the music humming through her, and the dance that brought them down the sidewalk. Bast was speaking melodies and Thanatos didn't want to miss a note. But he also had a lot of thoughts that needed to get out, so a few interruptions were inevitable. "I garden. I'm not in charge of it, but I do it anyway. Hades killed a cactus. I'm good at keeping things alive. It's like a punchline. Like a joke you tell. You even--"
When she stopped, Than stopped. When Than stopped, he almost tripped. Skidding to a halt on a rainbow sidewalk had its risks, naturally. Than wondered if all rainbow bridges led to Thor. Probably. He chuckled, and then she removed his sunglasses and Thanatos stopped laughing because he was busy trying not to squint. For a moment, she was solid gold. Even her teeth. When Bast spoke, the gold bled into a full-body halo, a solid brick of a halo. He had never seen anything like it.
"Yes," he replied. "They don't make them like you in Greece." Her skin was hot against his cheek. Thanatos reached to return the gesture, pushing through the rippling barrier of rays to cup her cheek gingerly. "You're burning right through me." The words felt heavy, and they felt insufficient. He frowned for a moment.
And then Than leaned in. His lips brushed her cheek. The corner of her mouth was involved too, but only accidentally. His aim was understandably a bit off.
