"She's given you plenty of reasons, from what I recall. Hostility, unkind words, very unpleasant looks. A few fleeting moments where she thought about nudging you off her tree branch. And that's just to name a few reasons." Idun hadn't actually considered knocking him from the tree. But she hadn't been kind. And she wasn't being as kind as she was capable of now, either. No, she was struggling instead, resisting the implications of his every smile, his words.
Because he was dangerous. Because he was the reason Idun needed walls. That she only met him yesterday just proved how terribly dangerous he was. Maybe I like her, and Idun could practically feel the kick to her pulse. She didn't understand why he was so exciting, why he was so captivating, why any of this was playing out the way it was. And that just added to her pile of bricks.
"Maybe," was all she said. Mostly because she didn't trust herself once the words started spilling out. She was very good at rambling. It wasn't a secret. Idun liked to talk, and she didn't mind if her runaway words sometimes made her look silly. She smiled through what would embarrass others. But it was different with Bragi. Another layer of bricks.
"Did you?" she asked, before curiosity could be pulled back in. Had he truly seen promise there? How? After the way she'd acted, after the way she fought his every word. "You realize we were talking about you, right? I answered the question that I asked you, then you asked me. I believe it's your turn." Idun paused briefly, then chuckled. "Though...maybe it's just the romance of adventure, but yes. Yes, I'd like a great deal of the unexpected. Now it's truly your turn to respond, Bragi."
Saying his name felt nice. Like her tongue had been waiting years and years just to shape the five little letters. Unconsciously, Idun might've brought herself a tiny bit closer to him. Held his arm a bit tighter. But only unconsciously. Because consciously, Idun was still doing everything in her power to regain the control she typically had when dealing with flirty gods.
