Bragi had used a good tactic, telling the girl that stories of the like they were planning to tell were magic. Anansi thought that all stories had power to them, of course, but he wouldn't call them magic. Though he would for the sake of this game.
"Another aspect of these stories, little Korinna, is that they can change on a whim. Sometimes right in the middle of something very large, there will be an unexpected thing. Do you know what that means for you? It means that you can tell us if there's something else you would like us to add. Any element at all, and then the story will grow around it."
He felt pleasure when her eyes lit up at that.
"And so, the world grew." Anansi began. "It grew from nothing into a wild paradise for the beasts. For a long time that is all there was. There were the gods, of course, looking at this young world and thinking there were many things that could happen with it. And they did. Many great and wonderful things occurred here before there was ever a human footprint. But those stories are for other nights.
"Man was made by a mischievous god who made an ugly thing out of sticks and clay, but his mother saw some beauty in it and gave it life. But this story is not about them, and it is not even about the birth of the great white winged horse. This story is about an adventure that Pegasus found himself in, one that was just for him and has not yet been heard. It will be heard tonight, by you."
Anansi glanced up at Bragi. He himself knew very little about the gods surrounding the horse. The horse had been of more interest to him in this Greek place. He had never seen one or heard of one before. Gods were a dime a dozen, winged horses, those were special.
"When a horse has wings, no master can keep it. Pegasus always goes where he wants to go, no matter what anybody else might tell you. One of the first places he chose to go were the lands across the sea. Did you know there are places outside of Greece, Korinna? There is even a place across a vast body of water that your people do not know about. This is where Pegasus went. To explore this place with uncountable secrets."
