That bird was never coming back, and Bragi was making no move that would indicate he planned on leaving. It was all very frustrating, but only because Idun was making a point to hold onto that tiny thread of annoyance. If she wasn't focusing on that, she would've almost completely slipped back into her normal, friendly self, but she had decided to be stubborn, so no. No, he wasn't getting off that easy. She knew this wasn't a house, and it wasn't even technically something she could claim as her own, but there were ways of announcing your presence from the ground. Namely, with your voice. He could've metaphorically knocked, but he chose to just appear instead.
And so these were the consequences. Bragi was nice enough, and he was clearly trying to be helpful by offering knowledge of other wonderful trees in the forest, but he hadn't earned the right to her immediate, unconditional friendship. He had destroyed his chances when he hadn't observed the basic courtesies of tree climbing.
Idun shook his hand, and that was that. Even if he wasn't leaving, that was that. No more social courtesies. He wasn't getting her name, and she could tell that was bothering him slightly, and that was fine with her. He had scared off her bird, and with it, his chances of learning the most basic piece of information about her. Somehow, that felt very satisfying. "I didn't offer my name," she replied, with a soft little smile that had the makings of a grin if she hadn't been holding back.
Even if she was making a clear effort to eliminate her otherwise-wonderful manners from this situation, there was no way for her to climb down just yet. He was blocking her way. And up wasn't exactly an option either, so she was stuck. And if she was stuck, Idun would chat a little. But she wouldn't enjoy it. Not even when he kept looking at her like that, and Idun got the unshakeable feeling that she was something special beneath his gaze. Especially not then. She wasn't falling for it. "That tree you mentioned is clearly good for the views. So what do you use this one for? Other than scaring off wildlife?"
