Of course it was so they could have a better view! As soon as Idun said it, it made complete sense to Philotes and she couldn't believe she'd missed the logic. They'd want to be in the best place to see the fireworks when they went off, so they'd have to run to get into position. And she'd have smiled to show her appreciation, but Idun was right. They should do this professionally.
Appropriately, Lottie nodded solemnly. “We will run.” And that was as tightly as she could contain her excitement, because her next words were an exclamation. “You should get to light them! They're your fireworks after all, you bought them, you brought them here, you have the instructions, you have, well, you had the lantern, and I'm really just holding it for you, but we should trade, don't you think? You take the lantern and I'll take the instructions, because even after we, well you, light the fuse and we run, we should probably hold onto the instructions, because you said you were taking the rest home for your husband to see, right? So we should definitely keep them, so here, we'll trade.”
Lottie thrust out the arm holding the lantern, nearly dropping it in the process. Her other hand lurched forward so there were suddenly two sets of fingers trying to grasp the handle that was in danger of escaping their grip. It was a close thing, but with a relieved sigh, she was finally able to curl her fingers around the rounded curve of metal that sprouted from the top of the lantern. With a smile, that she quickly squashed because they were being professional, Lottie offered the lantern to Idun. Her free hand was held, palm out, fingers spread, so that the Norse goddess could hand over the instructions.
“I'm sure he doesn't think you were rude,” she reassured as she waited for the exchange to take place. “Who could ever think that? You're bright, friendly, outgoing and very nice. At worst, he'd think you just forgot in your excitement about the fireworks, which really, is very understandable. He must get it all the time, from people that aren't nearly as personable as you are, so he won't think you're rude, I'm sure. You probably brightened his day.”
