That was a very good question. Idun's nose scrunched slightly as she mulled that over, but after squinting a moment, she just shrugged. "Maybe we're really just running to take in the full view. I mean, my merchant friend was so kind, he wasn't giving instructions out to everyone, just me, I can't imagine him telling us to run because we might be in danger. He probably just really wanted us to appreciate how truly majestic fireworks can be, at the right distance. I mean, if we stay where we light them, they'll just go into the sky above us and we'll have to crane our necks and get uncomfortable just to see the colors bloom, and that takes some of the wonder out of the whole experience. Sort of. I think the people watching fireworks aren't usually the same ones setting them off."
Idun had done so much talking, she barely had time to process Lottie's request before her new friend was gasping and coming to some marvelous conclusion that made sense of everything. "Sideways!" she exclaimed, then promptly grinned. Idun had never claimed she was good with instructions, and that was a good thing, because she would hate to accidentally lie.
"Look at that. You did it! I knew you were going to be wonderful, and you've gone and been wonderful and now...oh, oh we can absolutely still run, to take in the view, but yes. Here, let me fix this." Idun had set up the whole display incorrectly, but at least she understood how to remedy that. Thanks to Philotes. Oh, Idun was excited for this friendship already. As she fiddled with her cherished explosive devices, repositioning them carefully, Idun couldn't help smiling brightly.
But then she stopped again. She had to stop smiling! Philotes caught her frowning, which was good until she apologized. "Oh! No, no, nothing's wrong. It's just, I don't think the grinning happens until after we light the fuse. That just seems like the, uh, the professional way to go about this. I'm trying to be very serious, that way nothing goes wrong. And my merchant friend didn't smile. But...what if that's because I never asked for his name! He probably thinks I'm so rude..."
