Lottie blinked. Wait, what? She stopped, mentally replayed everything he'd said, then everything she'd said. While she was still rather bemused by the turn things had taken, she could see where they'd had a divergence in their understanding of what was being discussed. And she felt terrible for dumping that wave of words on his head.
Not that he hadn't needed to hear everything she'd said, but the context could have been different. And maybe a little less accusatory. Though really, he could have been a little less irritable in the way he spoke about the Underworld. That's how she'd arrived at the conclusion that he was insulting her family. Which was, apparently, an error on her part.
Oops.
“I'm sorry,” she apologized promptly. “You're right, you didn't say that, I assumed. It's just that everybody seems to prejudge them, us, all of us down here, and I just... when you said what you did about the whole place being a mess...”
Why had he said that, then? If he wasn't insulting the people down here, then why was he insulting the way things worked? Why did he call it a trash heap? Oh, but he hadn't. He'd said the previous king saw the Underworld as a convenient trash heap. And that previous king was....
oh.
Well now she felt horrible. But hugging to apologize was her usual modus operandi, and that was simply not going to work in this case. And she'd already said she was sorry, and Philotes sort of got the impression that repeating herself with Hades was not going to win her any points in his good book. She'd already garnered enough in the bad book for her little rant just now, so she didn't want to make it any worse than it already was. What did she say now?
“Some of what I said is still applicable,” she mentioned with more than a little hesitation. Again, probably not the best choice, but Lottie had a problem with honestly. She always found it, whether she wanted to or not. “Just in a kind of, um, different context.” Then she blinked again as she remembered something he'd said in the middle of her defensive babbling. With no segue whatsoever, she blurted out, “What do you mean you're not an Olympian?”
