There was, immediately, quite a lot of sniffing, and a little bit of growling. After all,the other two heads hadn’t met her yet and the head that had was a bit defensive. It took a few moments, and a lot of ear scritches and softly spoken words, to get everybody calmed down. Lottie was happy the dog only had one tail, because as hard as it was wagging, it would probably cause a hurricane if there were three. She informed each head that they were good before she addressed the question put to her.
“Not down here,” she said. “There are springs all over the place, but they trickle. Good for drinking or for a single person to freshen up, but he’s pretty big. And by the time they start collecting and becoming bigger bodies of water, my siblings are already pulling them into their rivers and that kinda taints them for others.”
Lottie bit her lip as she thought, then shared her thoughts aloud anyway. “There are some places nearby on the mortal plane. I mean, there’s an opening that comes up right next to Cumae, and the lake Avernos is closest, but it’s not all that clean. There’s another one, larger, a little further to the north though. That might be best. Maybe we can take him at night, so he’d be harder to see? I can ask my father for a little extra darkness to keep him a secret.”
She smiled wide. “He already thinks you’re his, you know. Dogs are pack animals, and you’re his pack. That’s why he looks at you like that when you whistle.” Her voice got a little softer and Lottie kept her eyes on the dog, rubbing velvety ears as she said, “It’s nice to not be totally alone. Sometimes, I have to find some time to myself, and that can be hard because I have a lot of siblings. But it’s nice to have somebody there when I want them to be.”
