separate from the crowd (Thantatos) San Francisco May 1937
It wasn't much of a park yet, construction was still everywhere, but Makaria had a nice blanket laid out. She had a bottle of wine, vintage in a way that Mortals really had no idea, at the ready along with a couple of glasses because they only started to drink from bottles after the second or third one. The crowd on the road not far from here was huge. So huge Makaria was thrilled that they didn't have to be a part of it. It was sort of a picnic, but he told her to bring the Wine. Which was different because she normally brought the food. Maybe he meant bring some of the wine. When she and Thanatos got started it hardly ever finished with just one unless they had something to do.
They often had too much to do.
But today was kind of a special day. She'd been reading about it for awhile, and their view would be perfect. Perfect. San Francisco bay wasn't always the best place, lots of fog and a good share of rain. But today it seemed perfect. Not too much sun, but not too many clouds either. The city was growing larger and larger, in fact America as a whole was getting much too big she thought. Maybe she was old fashioned but she liked to have the natural beauty of the Mortal Realm preserved. Old fashioned.
She was old. Just no one saw it that way. Not even the God she was waiting on. He wasn't late, no, always on time. She was just early. Because if she wasn't early he'd be here before her and she was in charge of the blanket. She tucked some of her hair behind her ears and looked around.
The Bridge looked amazing. That's why they were here after all.
