Hyp raised his eyes when the comment came back at him with some exasperation. He knew that part, did he? Well that was still no reason to speak in such tones to his father, who was doing nothing but trying to help. As usual, however, Hypnos let it pass. Children learned best from experience, he felt, not lectures. So Hyp would let his son try that tone with another who was in a position of authority and see how far he would get. His mother would obviously be the best choice. She was very good at rebuking and disciplining in ways that still seemed utterly loving and supportive. His Pasi was amazing, really.
So was his little wild child. Stacking them different would be cheating according to his son. Hypnos was terribly, terribly pleased with that line of thought. Even within his own play, with himself, Phobetor did not wish to cheat. He wanted to win fairly, because then it would have more meaning than if he'd somehow gamed the blocks to fall better. Any father that would not be proud of that was not a true father, in Hypnos' mind.
Because he was so pleased with his son, he didn't want to ruin his fun by admitting that yes, the noise had woken him. His children were all aware of their father's proclivities and his preferences. Hypnos had no doubt at all that Phobetor would not have deliberately made his nap impossible to achieve. So to tell his son that he was responsible for his father's conscious state would only make the child feel guilty, and that would not do at all.
But he also did not lie to his children. So instead, he chose to change the subject. “Why don't you let me hold the blocks, so you can rebuild the wall just the way you want. Then you can show me how you're going through it and we'll figure out how you can make it fall down all at once.”
