The man nodded. She had a point. It was different this time, and he deserved it. He needed it. His moment of indecision over, the man pulled off his wedding band and slid it into his pocket before getting to his feet. He was going to do it.
Anteros tossed back the rest of his second whiskey and ordered 2 more. It had been a long day, and it would take quite a bit of alcohol to wash it away. The first two drinks had started to take the edge off though, so it was a start.
"Fuck," the erote muttered over his drink. Why couldn't he just shut it off? It would be so much easier if he could perform his duties and then forget about them.
He could feel the torment and indecision in the man across the bar. It was an inner struggle where the God had hoped that the man would make the right decision and not cheat on his wife. The removal of the wedding ring, and the vows it represented spurred Anteros into action. The betrayal of one's wedding vows for no other reason than lust and desire angered the Love God. The wife didn't deserve to be betrayed in this way.
The erote had to work quickly, before the man went through with his betrayal. He filled the man's mind with memories of the good times he had with his wife, of the love they shared.
The man had taken one step towards the object of his desire when images of his wife filled his memory. He stopped dead in his tracks. His hands shook as he fumbled in his pocket for his wedding ring.
Anteros smiled as he sipped his drink. It looked like love was going to win out.
