That was a good plan. Nanna always came up with the best plans. Nergal had his brother sit back down on the blood-slicked floor. He sat next to him, putting one foot on Nanna’s side and grabbing his messed up arm. He pushed with his foot and pulled Nanna’s arm until he heard another ‘pop’. Nergal thought his big brother had been really brave while he did all that pulling. He had only yelled once.
But it had worked and his brother was not broken any longer. Nergal never liked it when anyone he loved got hurt. It was extra bad if they got hurt because of something he had done. He always tried to keep his fun away from his family, but sometimes that was hard. Like when he wanted to look at the insides of the dead person. And Nanna had started to like that before they fell and he got broken.
“Come on, Nanna. I’ll race you to the lake!” Normally he would have started running right then, but he needed to be certain that his brother was all right. After that, Nergal figured they could run together and get clean before anyone ever saw them. Then Nanshe could take the blame and everything would be all right again.
But Nergal was never going to bring a body into the kitchen again.
