Alright, he thought as he looked down at the small woman suddenly at his side, there were at least three words in that sentence he didn't understand. But his mind worked quickly, trying to put together the things she was saying. Something was familiar about the way the woman felt, something that he was also trying to puzzle out and creation she was small.
First he analyzed the words, starting with the obvious one -pear. She was referencing buying it, so that must be what he had in his hand. Whatever a pear was. Some kind of fruit, obviously. But was it sweet? Then the final word regarding another purchase, which judging by the rest of the context of the sentence must have referred to a grouping of pear trees. Oh, an orchard! So she was referring to why he would want to buy a pear when they'd be buying an orchard. But why would they be buying an orchard. Loki assumed that depended on what the first word was. The one she addressed him by.
The word sounded familiar, but in a feminine form, not in the masculine form she had used. At least he assumed it was masculine by the suffix on the word. It had meant... spouse! Pleased that he'd figured out what she'd said he smiled down at her. Then, and only then, did he recognize that this was no mere woman. This was a goddess of some kind. One who, judging by the birdcage behind her back, was implying some degree of trickery on the mortal who was selling the pears.
Either that or she was mad.
Ok, he was game either way. And maybe once this was done he'd tell her how to find Hermes. “Shh, my pet,” he hushed her at about the same volume she had used and bowed his head to get closer to her. “You'll ruin the surprise.”
Loki wasn't quite sure what she was doing. There weren't enough pieces of the puzzle yet to put it together but he hoped it was going to be entertaining. Though, given that there was fruit, and orchard and a birdcage involved -the birdcage of which seemed to be the major piece of the puzzle that just needed its surrounding pieces to totally make sense, the Norseman felt it was safe to assume that this was not going to be a boring trip to Greece. Not at all.
