“Waltz,” she said, supplying the name of the dance. “They're calling it a waltz. Which is better than what they were calling it a year ago when they were calling it the Spinner. That just sounds like it would make you dizzy enough to throw up, and not at all fun.”
Rosmerta refrained from explaining to him just why the waltz was so inferior and how the country dance it was based on was far more fun. But only because she was distracted by how familiar he seemed. She could swear she'd met him before, but where? Not at a ball or a dance or...
Oh. How had she missed it until now? He was a god! Of course that only narrowed down the options for where she might have met him before marginally. Rosmerta had done a fair bit of traveling with Mercury when they were “together.” So, how had she met this god? Hmmm.
Given the discussion of duels, and the fact that he was looking for one, perhaps he was a war god. Rosmerta tried to think of the war gods that she knew. Or maybe he was something that was related to war. She needed to know a little more. “Are you looking for a duel? Perhaps if you give me an idea of what you think is worth fighting over, I could find you one. Just to be accommodating, of course.”
