“We both said things we didn't mean,” Hades said. He hadn't wanted Makaria to go. He never really wanted Makaria to go. Maybe that was the problem. He'd wanted to have the things he didn't have and now somehow he'd suffocated her. Hades couldn't really blame her for wanting more. He just wished it hadn't entailed giving everything else up. Hades didn't want to be given up again. Not by Makaria.
He was still holding her, and with her head in his shirt, she could not see his face. But if she could have, Makaria would have noticed the faint glimmer of a sad smile.
“Always.” Hades said. He'd put work on hold to hold her for as long as she needed. That was one thing he could do. They'd sort this out, whatever it was. Makaria might not have everything she wanted, but at least she still had time.
