Hades held her a bit tighter and rubbed his hand up and down her shoulder. He put his cheek to the top of her head and looked across the room while he tried to come up with a response. Hades didn't quite know what to say. He wasn't a love god. He viewed love as a weakness, not something a person should cry over not having. It all confused him. He hoped this French guy ended up collected by the Keres.
He sighed. "You do not know what you're meant for. And as long as you don't know what you're meant for, you could be meant for anything. Your life is far from over. You still have a lot to live. If you do not want to end up alone, chances are, you probably won't. This just wasn't the right guy for that, or the right time."
He paused. "Just because your mother did something one way, does not mean it is the only way. Or even the right way. You really don't want to wind up in the arrangement we did. Keep trying Mak. You've got time. Life loves to surprise."
