Bast's brows rose, first in disbelief and then in amusement, as Ahti tried to claim that what she was doing was actually helpful for the woman. Putting aside the fact that helping wasn't really the sort of thing Ahti was known for, who in their right mind thought that a little excitement and scaring a person half to death were the same thing? Oh, well, there was the problem, she supposed. Ahti wasn't really in her right mind, or she wouldn't be trying to pass this story off as her excuse.
But any amusement she felt at Ahti's excuses was quickly replaced when the other goddess started poking at her about her job. Since it was a subject weighing on Bast's mind, it was already a tender spot. And with Ahti's final words, it pushed her from irritated to outright pissed off.
Her eyes narrowed and she half-snarled, “You are so full of shit. You wanted to help her? You? You don't help people. You could, but you don't. You waste your talents and you're trying to provoke me?”
Then just as suddenly as she appeared to give into anger, her good humor seemed to reemerge. Despite still seething inside, she leaned back and laughed lightly. Her grin was pointed, but in place. “Really, is that the problem, Ahti? You're just so cranky that you have nothing to do that you're jealous that I have so many places to showcase my abilities? Awww, poor little hippo.”
